Department: International Student and Scholar Services
Salary/Grade: ITS/77

The target hiring range for this position will be between $70,000-$75,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Must be U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident, meet Department of Homeland Security Designated School Official requirements.

*Terra Dotta-SEVP and International Office experience required.

Job Summary:

This position holds primary responsibility for the design, implementation, maintenance and enhancement of the Terra Dotta-SEVP federal immigration reporting platform and Northwestern's enterprise, vendor and in-house applications for immigration document processing for both international students and scholars. This position is also responsible for analyzing and documenting functional requirements in the context of software systems and processes, developing and executing test plans, assisting with and documenting business process improvement efforts and resolving production issues related to SEVIS. They will also contribute to developing processes and procedures for technical and functional system work and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.

Specific Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning

  • Participates with project manager and associate user support specialist, end users and peers to ensure that user requirements are gathered, analyzed, all gaps are documented, and all deliverables completed (adhering to approved methodology and documentation standards).
  • Participates with functional users and technical staff to determine best approaches, ensuring that approved solutions are implemented in a timely and correct fashion.

Administration

  • Contributes to the creation of accurate documentation of process, procedure, and system/application configuration.
  • Provides input into the creation and maintenance of test scripts, implementation project plans, roll out communications and training materials.
  • Identifies simple use cases.
  • Serves as a DSO/ARO

Development

  • Provides input into test scripts and performs detailed testing for simple use cases to ensure that the implemented software functions correctly.
  • Participates in iterative feedback processes among users, developers, and analysts to ensure software functionality aligns with requirements.

Performance

  • Enters basic software configurations to meet user needs.
  • Collaborates with technical, reporting and application resources to analyze and resolve basic production issues in a timely manner.

Supervises

  • Supervises 2 staff.

Miscellaneous

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as computer science, information technology, or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years of experience as a DSO/ RO with significant experience in batching, RTI reporting or another third-party reporting system. TERRA DOTTA experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience advising students and/or scholars
  • Master's Degree
  • 3+ years of experience with hands-on batching or a third-party reporting system(s)
  • Significant experience in interpreting regulations related to international student and/or scholar status
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds

Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)

  • Knowledge of a non-English language(s)
  • Experience with presentations and workshops at NAFSA annual, regional or other international education associations
  • SEVIS reporting
