The target hiring range for this position will be between $65,124 - $68,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Job Summary:

Serves in a supporting role to Systems Analyst for program objectives involving initiating, planning, and executing data analyses as they relate to technology, immigration software interfacing, and data operations for both student and scholar teams in the Office of International Student and Scholar Services (OISS). The position will also advise new and current international scholars in J-1, H-1B, E-3, and TN status as well as their associated departments and divisions. As international scholar advisor, they will continue to support internal and external immigration processes, remain up to date with best practices regarding regulatory compliance, reporting, communication with federal agencies, and maintaining scholar records within current OISS case management software systems.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with senior analyst to coordinate and track the initiation, planning and execution of Information Technology (IT) and related virtual and physical infrastructure projects in support of OISS strategic objectives and ongoing operations. Coordinates and performs testing, ensuring functionality and meeting specifications before passing on to end users; documents testing procedures and results.
  • Participates with functional users and technical staff to determine best approaches, ensuring that approved solutions are implemented in a timely and correct fashion.
  • Contributes to the creation of accurate documentation of processes, procedures, and system/application configurations.
  • Utilizes technical, reporting and application resources to analyze and resolve basic production issues in a timely manner while entering basic software configurations meet user needs.
  • Creates and manages reports within software systems and analyzes and prepares data sets for the purpose of monitoring regulatory compliance and informing stakeholders.
  • Interprets, monitors and advises on relevant federal immigration regulations as they pertain to J-1, H-1B, E-3, TN and other employment-based immigration statuses in the Northwestern context.
  • Processes scholar immigration requests, accepts scholar and department appointments, responds to electronic inquiries and other advising tasks.
  • Ensures data integrity and regulatory compliance within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and other university database systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as Social Sciences, Humanities, computer science, information technology, or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in international education

Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

  • Knowledge of visa categories (F, J, H-1B, E-3, TN) and federal regulations
  • Must be U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident, meet Department of Homeland Security Designated School Official requirements
  • Experience advising students and/or scholars
  • Ability to work with teams in an outcome-based environment
  • Ability to manage confidential information
  • Significant experience in interpreting regulations related to international student and/or scholar status
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
