As an Engineering Manager overseeing the Marketing Platform in PitchBook's Enterprise Technology division, you'll lead the engineering efforts that underpin our marketing technology stack, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance across our platforms. You'll play a critical role in driving innovation, efficiency, and scalability within our marketing technology stack. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you will ensure that our marketing systems, built around a marketing automation platform (Marketo), are robust, optimized, integrated, and aligned with the company's strategic objectives. This position offers a unique opportunity to blend technical expertise with leadership skills to drive impactful change in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

You'll build and lead a team of talented engineers responsible for developing and maintaining automation solutions for our marketing suite of tools and systems. You'll train and mentor engineering team members, identify and resolve impediments, oversee the integrity of software estimations, ensure our code and tests meet high standards, and develop software with scalability, reliability, and maintainability in mind.

This is a full-stack role, where you utilize your strong background in Java, Python, automation solutions (Workato), web services (REST/OpenAPI), messaging frameworks (Kafka), data pipelines (Airflow), cloud technologies (GCP/AWS), caching (Redis), and persistence (PostgreSQL) to build innovative solutions. You'll ensure your team develops a mastery of their discrete business domains and have autonomy, ownership, and accountability for their deliverables. You oversee that the team maintains strong test automation suites, aligning with automated build & CI/CD pipelines and containerized delivery (Kubernetes/Docker/Helm). You'll dive deep into code as needed.

Your ability to collaborate with Product Management, provide leadership across multiple locations, set a high bar for our team members, and hire, train, and retain exceptional talent in the organization is foundational to your success. You'll solicit feedback, engage others with empathy, build leaders on your teams, inspire creative thinking, and help create a culture of belonging, teamwork, and purpose.

Primary Job Responsibilities:



  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead and inspire a team of skilled engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure their growth and success. Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and accountability, ensuring that your team has the autonomy and ownership necessary to excel in their roles
  • Engineering Excellence: Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of automation solutions for our marketing technology stack. Ensure that the code produced by your team is of the highest quality, with a focus on scalability, reliability, and maintainability. Your full-stack expertise allows you to dive into the codebase when needed, ensuring alignment with best practices and industry standards
  • Platform Optimization & Integration: Ensure that our marketing systems, particularly those built around Marketo, are robust, optimized, and seamlessly integrated. Lead efforts to enhance system performance, drive innovation, and implement scalable solutions that align with the company's strategic objectives
  • Technical Leadership: Leverage your strong background in Java, Python, cloud technologies, software architecture, messaging frameworks, and data pipelines to drive the technical direction of the marketing platform. Ensure that your team adopts and implements best practices in automation, web services, test automation, and cloud-native delivery
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product Management, Marketing, and other teams to ensure that engineering efforts are aligned with business goals. The ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable business strategies is critical to driving impactful change
  • System Integrity & Performance: Oversee the integrity of software estimations and ensure that the systems your team develops meet high standards of performance, reliability, and security. You will be vigilant in identifying and resolving impediments, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within scope
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Committed to driving innovation within the marketing technology stack. You'll continuously seek opportunities to improve processes, tools, and systems, ensuring that the technology supporting our marketing efforts remains at the cutting edge
  • Talent Acquisition & Retention: Play a key role in hiring, training, and retaining top engineering talent. Skills and Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 8+ years experience in software engineering with deep experience in software integration, and working experience in workflow automation, marketing technology, or related areas
  • 3+ years in an engineering leadership role with direct management responsibilities of at least 3 people
  • 3+ years hands-on coding and delivering services that are provided "as a service" to other teams as part of a large-scale distributed microservices architecture
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and mentoring engineering teams
  • Expert-level skills in Java, Python, and SQL
  • Deep understanding of marketing automation platforms (Marketo) and related technologies
  • Experience with containerization technologies, including Kubernetes and Docker, and understand how to build cloud-scale delivery, including scalability, resiliency, and recoverability
  • Solid understanding of software development methodologies, Agile practices, and DevOps principles
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on innovation, efficiency, and scalability
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Experience in the financial industry or B2B marketing is a plus

Compensation



  • Annual base salary: $210,000-$250,000
  • Target annual bonus percentage: 15%



*Starting pay will be based on several factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience. We also have a location-based compensation structure; there may be different ranges for candidates by location.

Working Conditions:

We believe our business and our culture are strongest when we work together in person. We also know that it's helpful to have some flexibility to work remotely. Most roles work in the office 3+ days/week, and some are expected to work in the office 4-5 days/week. The current expectation for this role is that you are working in the office 3+ days/week and that you are in the office full-time during the training period, for which the length varies by role. During an initial phone screen, the team will discuss expectations for this specific position.

The job conditions for this position are in a standard office setting. Employees in this position use PC and phone on an on-going basis throughout the day. Limited corporate travel may be required to remote offices or other business meetings and events.
