Description |
We invite applications for a full-time, tenure-line faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Exercise Science in Ball State's School of Kinesiology. The successful candidate will provide high quality teaching, in the undergraduate Exercise Science and graduate Exercise Physiology programs. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in research activities in their area(s) of expertise that lead to refereed publications and extramural funding. Active engagement in department, college, University, and professional service activities is also expected. The position includes a start-up package, graduate assistant support, and dedicated space in the Integrative Exercise Physiology Laboratory.
The teaching load for this position is 6-9 semester hours or equivalent per academic semester. Responsibilities will include primarily teaching undergraduate courses in exercise physiology, and graduate courses in exercise testing and interpretation, and research methods. The successful applicant will also provide research mentoring to graduate students in our MS program in Exercise Physiology, and undergraduate research assistants.
Research assigned time is 3-6 semester hours or equivalent per academic semester. Responsibilities include performing scholarly work in one's area of expertise, pursuing and obtaining extramural funding, and showing continued evidence of research productivity in form of refereed publications and presentations.
Responsibilities include actively contributing to the intellectual and professional life in the School of Kinesiology, College of Health, Ball State University, and professional associations related to exercise science and/or one's area of expertise.
The faculty member will perform other related duties as assigned by the School Chairperson.
Salary range is $60,000 - $65,000. The position will begin August 15, 2025. Position also comes with a full benefit package and possibility of summer employment. |
Minimum Qualifications |
Minimum qualifications include: Earned doctorate OR completion of all degree requirements in exercise physiology, exercise science, kinesiology, or closely related field by the time of appointment from an accredited college or university; the ability to teach courses in exercise science; and demonstrated performance in scholarly activities. |

Preferred Qualifications |
Post-doctoral or other relevant research experience; evidence of an active research agenda that complements scholarly work of current faculty or otherwise meets the needs of the school; documentation of a successful, or potential for successful, extramural funding record; and experience in teaching courses in or related to exercise physiology, fitness testing and exercise prescription, and research methods. |

The
SCHOOL OF KINESIOLOGY provides comprehensive educational programs related to understanding the impact physical activity has on health, society, and quality of life for the general population as well as children, older adults, athletes, and people with disabilities, injuries, or disease. More than 30 faculty members are committed to approximately 750 students through undergraduate programs in coaching, exercise science, physical education and health, and sport administration, and graduate programs in athletic coaching education, athletic training, biomechanics, clinical exercise physiology, exercise physiology, sport administration, sport and exercise psychology, and human bioenergetics. As part of the University Core Curriculum, the School houses the physical fitness and wellness program that reflects Ball State's commitment to positively impacting quality of life and the University's mission of students living meaningful lives and thriving in fulfilling careers. School facilities include 7 laboratories for both teaching and research: Human Performance Laboratory, Clinical Exercise Physiology Laboratory, Biomechanics Laboratory, Sport and Exercise Psychology Laboratory, Exercise Science and First Aid Laboratory, Integrative Exercise Physiology Laboratory, and Athletic Training Teaching and Research Laboratory.
The
COLLEGE OF HEALTH is a vital resource for Indiana for preparing health professionals, the College of Health is moving boldly forward in making interprofessional education, practice and research its paradigm across its disciplines. The College offers 32 academic programs in 7 units: Departments of Counseling Psychology, Social Psychology, and Counseling; Military Science; Nutrition and Health Science; Speech Pathology and Audiology; and Social Work plus the Schools of Nursing and Kinesiology. We are proud to be the academic home for the campus
ROTC program, which commissions about 20 officers annually from Ball State and affiliated programs at nearby universities. Our 200 faculty and staff serve nearly 3,000 students. We partner with communities for immersive learning. Our Interprofessional Community Clinics and the Healthy Lifestyle Center offer health services and health education by faculty-supervised students. These clinics operate as an auxiliary to the college, providing an unusual opportunity for students to learn the business of health care.
Faculty and students contribute to the evidence base for their respective disciplines. Our research is community engaged and features the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies, Human Performance Lab and the Center for Substance Use Research and Community Initiatives. The Fisher Institute for Health and Wellbeing is being re-envisioned as the College's hub of community engagement. We are committed to inclusive excellence in all we do to contribute to a diverse health professional workforce to decrease health disparities.
Our Health Professions Building, housing most of our academic programs, opened in 2019 with 165,000 square feet and is
LEED Gold certified. The School of Kinesiology is housed in the Health and Physical Activity building, which boasts adjacencies to Worthen Arena, Ball State Athletics, and the Jo Ann Gora Student Recreation and Wellness Center. Military Science finds its home in the historic Ball Gymnasium. |
