Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Division of Human Resources and Equal Opportunity and Compliance provides the University with a full range of Human Resources, Equal Opportunity, and Title IX programs and services to support the University's teaching, research, and public service mission. The Human Resources and Equal Opportunity and Compliance Communications unit is charged with clearly, consistently and appropriately communicating to campus and beyond to build knowledge and understanding on these topics. |
Position Summary |
The Equal Opportunity and Compliance (
EOC) Communications Specialist is responsible for assisting the
EOC with all communication needs, as well as for the Division of Human Resources and Equal Opportunity and Compliance, as needed. This position supports efforts to ensure a consistent communications presence for
EOC across all outreach channels at the University. This includes University websites, campus networking events, and print deliverables. This position plans campaigns, collaborates with campus partners, and uses video, graphics, and other creative assets to promote campus awareness of policy information, services, and resources offered by the office. In addition, this position tracks communications best practices, trends, and media relevant to
EOC issues. The Communications Specialist oversees a part-time communications intern and may lead student interns from a violence prevention course. This role works with campus stakeholders to support
EOC communications needs and also supports the division's Communications Team to assist with communications needs for the division. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Requires integrated communications experience, including content creation, writing, editing, and basic event management skills. Successful candidate should have experience in professional social media strategy and a foundational understanding of video production and post-production; knowledge of website content management systems; working knowledge of digital design applications such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite; knowledge of social media platforms (such as Instagram, X, TikTok, and YouTube); ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with key colleagues and customers. Also, requires a high level of professionalism to work on confidential matters. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Strong preference for demonstrated video production and post-production experience. Experience in policy-related communications and/or translating complicated information into plain language. Proficiency in WordPress or similar content management system is strongly preferred. Experience in AP style and writing for both print and digital media. |
Special Physical/Mental Requirements |
Requires significant attention to detail as
EOC is responsible for ensuring University compliance with state and federal laws. |
