Overview

A Systems Engineer (Network) supports server/storage infrastructure and manages special platforms/applications related to universal business needs, with a heavy emphasis on networking. Responsibilities include work with servers, endpoints, printers, LAN-based networks office applications, and related technologies. The Systems Engineer also participates in team leadership and project management within the IT environment.

Responsibilities



  • Administer network and communication systems including installation, configuration, backups, security, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Respond to escalated support requests, providing advanced technical support and guiding the Service Desk team in resolution of network or other engineering related issues.
  • Coordinate and/or manage vendor and contractor activities supporting Engineering needs, engaging vendors as needed, ensuring vendors have the required access, tools and oversight to complete projects, communicating project details with internal and external stakeholders and signing off on successful project completion.
  • Act as group, team, and/or cross-functional committee lead supporting organizational initiatives.
  • Manage IT Engineering projects of limited scope with assistance from SSE's and PMO.
  • Create and maintain structure and standards for development of team document repositories.
  • Provide input to organization-wide application and tool planning.
  • Serve as primary owner of Engineering applications, systems, and/or technology platforms.
  • Travel to remote sites or training as needed, including overnight, not to exceed 50% travel.
  • Provide on-site and remote administration, implementation, and management of all distributed systems in a large geographic footprint.
  • Coordinate, track, and report on the progress of work assignments and/or projects.
  • Maintain a schedule of after-hours emergency call availability.

Job Requirements



  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3yr+ experience in an IT support/repair environment (or) 1yr+ experience in an enterprise infrastructure environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of networking systems. (topologies, routing, switching, firewalls, protocols, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of network security concepts (segregation, isolation, compliance)
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to discuss complex subjects and articulate advanced concepts orally and in writing to diverse stakeholders representing technical and non-technical business areas.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work and keep on schedule with minimal oversight.
  • Detail-orientation, with an affinity for processes and workflows.
  • Strong customer service skills including patience with others and a track record in developing good working relationships while persistent in the pursuit of the goals/objectives.
  • Ability to accept and embrace accountability.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to set priorities and goals and develop plans for achieving them.
  • Ability to work under timelines and pressure
  • Ability to move and position self to move and retrieve equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds from shelves and under counters.
  • Ability to travel throughout the organization's footprint and stay overnight as needed.
  • Availability to work a rotating on-call schedule, holidays, weekends, and after regular business as needed
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand the English language to communicate accurately and effectively with customers, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to meet Company requirements, including successful pre-employment background check and drug test.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.


Preferred Skills



  • Associate degree in Information Technology or related field.
  • 3yr+ experience managing a network of firewalls, routers, switches, modems, Internet connectivity, and cabling.
  • 3yr+ experience managing circuit interconnectivity (VPN tunnels, MPLS, etc.)
  • 3yr+ experience managing Azure and/or AWS cloud environments.
  • 1yr+ experience managing orchestrated IaaS network solutions.
  • 5yr+ experience with enterprise products/vendors: (e.g. Jira, Dell, Cisco, VMware, Veeam, Pure)
  • 3yr+ experience with the following network products/vendors: Cisco, Meraki, Juniper, Fortinet, Aruba, Cradlepoint.
  • 3yr+ experience managing network load balancers. (e.g. F5)
  • Experience communicating effectively on a departmental and cross-departmental basis.
