Position Highlights

The Athletic Trainer Position provides for the prevention and care of athletic related injuries for all adaptive athletes. This position reports to both the Supervisor for Sports Medicine at Campus Health Service (CHS) and the Adaptive Athletics Director. This position is an on-call (PRN) hourly position.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise all components of the athletic training program for Adaptive Athletics teams under the supervision of a UA CHS staff physical therapist or staff physician.
  • Prevention and care of athletic related injuries for all Adaptive Athletics.
  • Maintain knowledge of and observe pertinent OSHA regulations to minimize the risk of transmission of bloodborne pathogens.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise all components of the athletic training program for Adaptive Athletics teams while working under the direction of the UA Campus Health team physicians. This includes prevention, evaluation and emergency treatment of injuries and an injury and illness prevention program.
  • Follow standard of care and professional, ethical, and legal guidelines regarding use of therapeutic agents for treatment and rehabilitation of injured student athletes and participants.
  • Attend practice sessions and athletic contests/tournaments/camps as assigned by the Adaptive Athletics Director.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with UA Adaptive Athletics coaches, members of their teams, and other staff as necessary which includes accurate and up to date injury records, treatments.
  • Refer all injuries to UA Campus Health provider staff for follow up care, follow up evaluation, and follow up treatment plans as indicated.
  • Coordinate educational Adaptive Athletics Teams and staff.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Adaptive Athletics Director and Supervisor for Sports Medicine at Campus Health Service.
  • Maintain CME education, license, and credentialing to practice as an athletic trainer in Arizona, Arizona Board of Athletic Training.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Skill in evaluation, assessment, and treatment of musculoskeletal system.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in
    athletic training
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Certified CPR-PR/AED
  • Arizona Athletic
    Training licensed OR eligible to obtain licensure by date of hire.
  • N.A.T.A. Certified
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in athletic training.
  • 1 year post graduate experience
  • Certified CPR-PR and AED instructor/trainer
  • Teaching experience
  • Experience covering Adaptive Athletics
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist
