Join the HJF Team! HJF is seeking a Creative Arts Therapist (Art Therapist, Dance/Movement Therapist or Music Therapist) to work at the James A. Haley VA Medical Center in Tampa, FL. Approximately 50% of the incumbent's time will be directed towards the development of a regional arts-based disaster resiliency and recovery network in alignment with the US Department of Veterans Affairs "Fourth Mission" - to improve the nation's preparedness for response to war, terrorism, national emergencies, and natural disasters by developing plans and taking actions to ensure continued service to Veterans, as well as to support national, state, and local emergency management, public health, safety and homeland security efforts. The network will support arts-focused resiliency and recovery related activities, particularly related to regional emergencies and disaster events. The other half of this position will implement programming to investigate how the creative arts therapies and various healing arts models, including a clinic to community continuum, developed and tested within the Creative Forces Network can be adapted and delivered to service members, veterans, and families. This position will be in support of the Creative Forces Network. The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.
Responsibilities
- Establish and sustain relationships with regional arts and emergency response sectors to integrate the arts into response and recovery in ways that are trauma-informed, support well-being and resilience, and build trusted networks of support to improve responsiveness to unique individual, veteran, and community needs in the wake of natural disasters and national emergencies, including in remote locations with limited access to emergency and/or social support services. Serve as a resource to regional assets interested in being a part of arts-based resiliency and recovery efforts.
- Work with Clinical Program Evaluator and Clinical Lead for Disaster Response to assess needs of arts and emergency response groups who are interested in disaster resiliency and recovery work (i.e. education and training, partnerships, personnel, etc.) and to develop and implement a measurement plan and shared repository of assets and resources, including toolkits, that can be distributed to support these groups in meeting the communities' resiliency and recovery needs.
- Seek opportunities to educate and raise awareness of the role of the arts and the creative arts therapies, including their contribution to improving the health and well-being of communities impacted by regional emergencies and disaster events, in collaboration with Creative Forces' Research, Evaluation and Informatics Team.
- Engage with the cadre of CATs within the Creative Forces Network to identify and share best practices, including through the development of content for the National Resources Center. Actively engage in both synchronous and asynchronous collaboration with the Network of CATs as active member of a community of practice to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality care, while supporting one another professionally.
- Participate in training, education, outreach, media activities or other activities as requested by the Senior Military Medical Advisor.
- Perform clinical care, community engagement and scholarly activity, while serving as an integral part of the interdisciplinary clinical team at the James A. Haley VA Medical Center as well as within the Creative Forces Network.
- Develop and implement clinical services on site and as directed via telehealth or in the community, including implementing treatment programs and professional casework for active duty military personnel, veterans and their eligible dependents designated to receive care by the Department of Defense (DoD) or Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and as specifically allowed under the Memorandum of Understanding/Memorandum of Agreement between the site facility and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).
- Coordinate and work with the clinical site POC for day-to-day operations, meetings and to determine site specific requirements.
- Seek and develop opportunities to create connections between the James A. Haley VA Medical Center and community arts organizations to enhance the desired clinic to community continuum.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
Art Therapy or Dance/Movement Therapy: Possess a Master's Degree (or higher) in art therapy or dance/movement therapy from an accredited program. Preferred to have a minimum of two years' (or higher) graduate level and/or post-graduate experience in a clinical setting, preferably working with military-connected populations, community resiliency, disaster response, trauma, or similar focus areas. Music Therapy: Possess a Bachelor's Degree or higher in music therapy from an accredited program. Preferred to have a minimum of three years, post bachelor's experience in a clinical setting, preferably working with military-connected populations, community resiliency, disaster response, trauma, or similar focus areas.
Licenses and Certifications
- Art Therapist: ATR or ATR-BC through continuing education as required by the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB)
- Music Therapist: MT-BC from Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT)
- Dance/Movement Therapist: R-DMT or BC-DMT through continuing education as required by the Dance/Movement Therapy Certification Board (DMTCB)
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of and direct experience working with military-connected populations, community resiliency, disaster response, trauma, or similar focus areas.
- Demonstrated experience working with community arts programming.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Possess the ability to work with diverse patient populations and sensitivity to individuals from varied backgrounds and cultures.
- Competency with age-specific needs from childhood through young adulthood.
Familiarity with the people and cultures of the Tampa Bay region and an ability to integrate within that community. Have proficiency with the latest version of advanced and various computer software applications and possess strong skills in using the entire Microsoft Office suite of products. - Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.
Work Environment
Compensation
- The annual salary range for this position is $57,650-$80,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
