Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant is responsible for providing accurate financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data and preparing reports. The role assists in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures and provides guidance to other accounting staff. The role works closely with other departments to ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial information and serves as a key contributor during periodic reviews/audits conducted by external auditors. The role also handles responsibilities which include preparing financial reports, analyzing financial data, developing budgets and forecasts, managing financial risks, maintaining internal controls, preparing tax returns, and supporting audits.

  • Develops and implements accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and company standards, performs analysis of financial data to identify trends and variances, and prepares financial reports and statements for management review and decision making.
  • Coordinates and oversees the month-end close process, including preparation of journal entries and reconciliations of accounts, and reviews and approves the work of staff accountants to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Manages the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including monitoring aging reports, analyzing trends, and developing strategies for collections and vendor management, and works collaboratively with other departments to resolve issues and ensure timely processing of transactions.
  • Provides financial analysis and support to business units, including preparing forecasts and budgets, analyzing actual vs. budget performance, and identifying opportunities for cost savings and revenue growth.
  • Assists in the preparation and review of regulatory filings, including premium and tax reports, and responds to inquiries from regulatory agencies and auditors.
  • Acts as a liaison between the accounting department and other departments within the company, providing guidance and support on accounting issues and policies, and promoting a collaborative and communicative work environment.
  • Participates in special projects and initiatives, including system implementations, process improvements, and other strategic initiatives, and provides leadership and guidance to project teams.
  • Provides training and mentorship to staff accountants and supports their professional development and growth within the organization.
  • Conducts research and analysis on emerging accounting issues and trends and provides recommendations to management on accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with evolving regulations and industry standards.


  • 3+ years of experience in Accounting or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Finance or a related field and/or commensurate experience.


Location

Hybrid defined as three or more days per week in the office
