MU Health Care is looking for an Ophthalmic Technician Certified will assist ophthalmologists and optometrists in providing eye care to patients. Perform all clinical duties consistent with the International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO). DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION Conduct preliminary patient interviews and record relevant data such as the chief complaint, health history, medications, and allergies for the physician's review. Measure vitals when necessary. Prepare patient and exam rooms for all procedures and assist physicians with procedures. May perform a wide spectrum of ophthalmic procedures of varying complexity based on varying levels of professional certification. Clean and restock exam rooms including restocking supplies, equipment, and medications. Review expiration dates of supplies and medication and take appropriate action. Enter physician-requested orders for patient testing into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Assist physicians as required and perform all other duties as assigned. May complete unit/department-specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification by the International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
