The Outside Sales Representative (II) is a self-starter with a professional attitude who enjoys developing strong business partnerships with the purpose of gaining the client's trust and delivering value-added products. The role uses a consultative approach to service accounts with the best product options needed for landscaping jobs to dramatically impact the growth of our business. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: PROSPECTING, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, SALES
- Seek out new business via cold calling, email marketing, canvassing, trade shows, industry events, networking, and social media
- Physically placing/making/initiating 150-200 prospecting calls per week
- Research marketing data from competitors, field intelligence reports, trends, industry organizations, and sales opportunities
- Ability to listen well, ask excellent questions, think quickly "on your feet" and personal commitment or "care" about closing the sale for the customer.
ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT
- Proactively identify and capitalize on opportunities to grow sales with current and potential customers
- Utilize available resources and technology such as CRM tools to track the sales pipeline and account interactions
- Manage a portfolio of wholesale accounts as well as develop new accounts within an assigned territory
MARKETING
- Develop marketing strategies to increase commercialization of TGU packaged products to garden centers and commercial landscape contractors
- Assist with PR opportunities with print media, radio, TV, and national publications, tradeshows, etc.
RELATIONSHIPS
- Cultivate and manage strong relationships with customers via website, phone, email.
CUSTOMER SERVICE, PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE
- Gain product knowledge so as to educate customers regarding our product line and the best products for their needs.
- Assist customers with their questions and needs, either in person, via the phone or through online ordering.
HANDS-ON DUTIES
- Assist, provide product details to walk-in customers in the showroom and yard
- Pull and prepare inventory orders for customer pick up or delivery
- Process POS transactions quickly and accurately, including credit cards, cash, checks, and perform other monetary transactions as needed
REPORTING
- Responsible for communicating with sales and account management team on new account developments
- Run daily reports and balance daily closeout
- Other duties as assigned or needed
Essential Qualifications:
- A HS diploma or GED
- Must have 3 years of current sales experience and proven success.
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PP, Outlook).
- Reliable transportation, a valid state-issued driver's license, and clean MVR.
- Demonstrated commitment to superior customer service.
- Ability to work well in a team environment, under pressure with minimal supervision.
- Strong sales presentation skills to confidently address any size of audience or setting
- Salespeople at The Ground Up do not follow a traditional eight-hour business day, work above that amount is expected to meet client demands.
Desired Qualifications:
- Knowledge of nursery products such as plants, trees, compost, mulches, stone, pavers, etc.
- Sales experience in a garden center, nursery, landscape or farming context is a plus
- Experience or education in the horticulture, agriculture or related field
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing or related a plus
- Previous experience using CRM systems
- Bilingual skills in Spanish and English
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to sit, stand and walk for long periods of time or until the end of the assigned shift
- Must be able to safely and properly lift 15 lbs. or more occasionally throughout the assigned shift with or without assistance
- Must be able to bend/stoop, squat, reach above shoulder height, crouch, balance, and push/pull
- Must be able to use both hands for repetitive actions such as grasping and manipulating
- Specific vision abilities required including close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception an ability to adjust focus
Work Environment:
- Must be able to work with daily exposure to dust and dirt
- Moderate noise typical of an office setting such as computers, printers, phone, and light customer traffic
