Career development Our Global Diversity Framework is integrated with broader workforce plans. It incorporates three interrelated objectives: • Attract, develop and retain a premier workforce from the broadest possible pool to meet our business needs worldwide; • Actively foster a productive work environment where individual and cultural differences are respected and valued, and where all employees are encouraged to contribute fully to the achievement of superior business results; • Identify and develop leadership capabilities to excel in a variety of international and cultural environments. Investing in diversity Acquiring and understanding global and cultural knowledge have become increasingly important for our success in this global environment. Below are a few examples of the many tools offered to our employees to assist in this effort: Managing in a Global Organization (MGO) A web-based resource providing a central location to share tools, information, and tips for effective communication, teambuilding, and to provide employees an ongoing opportunity to network globally. GlobeSmart™ A web-based cultural tool that provides quick and easy access to extensive information on how to conduct business effectively in various countries around the world. Working globally course A training session designed to help bridge cultural gaps in global work teams focusing on effective cross-cultural communication and cultural awareness. Technical training Developing the premier workforce in the petroleum industry is a key aspect of career development at ExxonMobil. The Upstream Technical Training Center is one of several world class centers that provide training and technology transfer. The center is designed to provide a safe, secure and modern learning environment. It is a working facility and showcase for ExxonMobil training and technology. ExxonMobil’s global policies promote diversity and inclusiveness and prohibit any form of discrimination or harassment in any company workplace, anywhere around the world. These broad policies encompass all forms of discrimination — including discrimination based on sexual orientation. Mentoring and peer support The dynamic nature of our business environment demands that we quickly engage the full capabilities of all our new employees. Providing transition guidance helps new hires quickly become proficient contributors. At ExxonMobil, mentoring programs are designed to achieve that objective and to increase job satisfaction, self-esteem and self-reliance for the new employee. Integration efforts to accelerate learning for new employees are critical to our continued success. Employee networks Local employee networks exist in various locations, particularly where there are large numbers of ExxonMobil employees. These voluntary, employee-led groups provide a positive, informal environment to discuss common experiences and enhance business performance. These groups often sponsor educational and community service programs for interested employees. Leadership and development ExxonMobil develops future leaders on a worldwide basis, drawing upon our diverse employee population. This approach demands a strong commitment to develop our resources through work assignments, on-the-job experience, and focused training and education. ExxonMobil sponsors five core Leadership Development Training Programs globally.
