JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS) in the Penn State College of Medicine, in Hershey, PA, announces an open tenure-line faculty position (open rank) for a qualified individual with expertise in leading coordinating centers (e.g., Data Coordinating Centers [DCCs], Research Coordinating Centers [RCCs], Data Coordination and Analysis Centers [DCACs], etc.) for multi-center observational studies and/or clinical trials. The PHS mission is to advance health through the design, conduct and analysis of population-based biomedical research, including clinical trials, observational research, health services research, and regulatory and translational science, the support of basic science and clinical research, the education of future generations of health professionals, and the active engagement of the community to improve health and well-being. PHS consists of three academic divisions, namely, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, and Health Services and Behavioral Research.There are more than 55 PHS faculty members (27 tenured/tenure-eligible) and more than 70 support staff members.PHS provides a strong infrastructure for its faculty members and the broader College and Penn State Health in the areas of biostatistics, study design, data management, research computing, project management, and finance and administration. PHS offers six graduate programs, namely, PhD in Epidemiology, PhD in Biostatistics, Doctor of Public Health (DrPH), Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Science (MS) in Clinical Research, and Master of Professional Studies in Homeland Security with an option in Public Health Preparedness, as well as several Graduate Certificate programs. Over the past 30 years, faculty members in PHS have leveraged our extensive, state-of-the-art infrastructure and outstanding research environment to support 14 coordinating centers totaling approximately $162 million in extramural funding. The successful candidate will possess training and experience that is applicable to leading coordinating centers in the design, conduct, and analysis of multi-center research studies. The successful candidate will be expected to expend approximately 80% effort on research, 15% effort on teaching and mentoring students, and 5% effort on service. The successful candidate should possess a doctoral degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, medicine, or a related discipline, and have a track record of scholarly activity that includes leading NIH-funded coordinating centers as PI or Co-Investigator. The Penn State College of Medicine is located in Hershey, PA, near the state capital of Harrisburg. Large metropolitan areas are within a few hours of driving, such as Philadelphia (1.5 hours), Baltimore (1.5 hours), New York City (2.5 hours), Washington DC (2.5 hours), and Pittsburgh (3.5 hours). Harrisburg International Airport and AMTRAK are located less than ten miles away.
