The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Carnegie Mellon offers a unique interdisciplinary program that enables you to develop imaginative solutions to real-world engineering problems. Mobility Data Analytics Center (MAC) is looking for one Graduate Research Assistant starting Fall 2024, possibly to enroll in the PhD program depending on performance and funding availability. Research subjects are: 1) use GIS and web-based tools to identify crash hotspots in PA; 2) develop models and algorithms to infer the impact of work zones on crash risks.

Core Responsibilities:

  • With some supervision, designs experiments and research protocols.
  • Contributes to overall project planning and acts as lead to coordinate portions of a large project or study. Ensures project deadlines are met.
  • Collects, verifies, and manages data. Performs data analysis in order to produce reports. Documents and processes results. Develops quantitative models.
  • Writes and edits recommendations and reports.
  • Maintains administrative records. Tracks and adheres to established budgets.
  • May program software in support of job functions.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 3-5 years of research experience, methodology experience, and data collection and analysis experience.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interested in transportation safety research and deployment.
  • Experience in GIS and basic machine learning algorithms.
  • Proficient in Python programming.
