Director, Data Management

Overview

The Director of Data Management will be responsible for overseeing and advancing Alnylam's Commercial data management strategy, data architecture, and implementation of data governance controls and policies. This person will work closely with business executives, stakeholders, and data stewards to identify, recommend, manage the implementation, support of analytics solutions to satisfy their information needs and ensure that Alnylam's data assets are accurate, consistent, secure, and accessible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute Alnylam's commercial data strategy, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Develop the commercial data architecture that supports Alnylam's data needs across various commercial domains, such as marketing, sales, patient services, etc.
  • Implement and enforce data governance policies, standards, and best practices to ensure data quality, integrity, security, and compliance under the direction of, and in partnership with data governance teams in the business.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, IT, and external partners to understand data requirements, identify data solutions, and resolve data issues. Foster open communication and data-sharing practices across departments to promote a unified, data-driven culture.
  • Manage and oversee the design, development, testing, and deployment of data pipelines, data lakes, and data integration platforms.
  • Manage and oversee the development, delivery, and support of data management and analytics solutions, from data sourcing to analytics to enable data-driven decision making and insights.
  • Manage project teams of data engineers, analysts, and scientists, providing guidance and mentorship. Oversee vendors and service providers to select, implement analytics solutions, products or services that best meet Alnylam goals.
  • Stay abreast of the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in data management, BI, and analytics, and evaluate and recommend new tools and solutions.
  • Select and implement the appropriate tools, software, applications, and systems to support data technology goals.
  • Stay current on regulations, compliance requirements, and leading practices related to data. Partner with information security, legal & compliance teams to ensure adherence with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish and monitor data management and analytics KPIs and metrics, and report on the progress and outcomes of data initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in data management, BI, and analytics, with at least 5 years of experience in a leadership role, including managing teams and service providers.
  • Proven track record of delivering complex and large-scale data projects.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, with the ability to see the big picture to develop and execute data management strategies that align with commercial business objectives.
  • Expertise working with commercial data, including CRM, Healthcloud, omnichannel systems, market data, and customer analytics.
  • Expertise in data architecture, data modeling, data governance, data quality, data security, and data integration.
  • Experience in data platforms and tools, such as DataBricks, Snowflake, Power BI, etc.
  • Experience in applying advanced analytics techniques, such as machine learning, AI, NLP, etc., to solve business problems.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex data concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and stakeholders.
  • Passion for data and innovation, and a desire to make a positive impact on patients' lives.
