Research Technologist

The Department of Neurology is seeking a Research Technologistfor the laboratory of Dr. Ahmet Hoke. Dr. Hoke's laboratory studies the pathogenesis of peripheral neuropathies using in vitro and animal models of diabetes and chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy. The individual in this position will be able to independently pursue new projects as well as work collaboratively with the other members of the lab, including Principal Investigators, post-docs, graduate students, and other technicians on ongoing projects. In addition to performing laboratory experiments, ongoing responsibilities will include the management of several transgenic mouse colonies and assisting with laboratory operations.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Follow established procedures or protocols and utilize aseptic technique to perform experiments.
  • Follow procedures/protocols that may require basic tissue culture collection including both rodent and human stem cells, rodent behavioral and electrophysiological studies, rodent surgery, genotyping, and/or cell separation methods
  • Perform laboratory methods/techniques associated with protein, lipid or carbohydrate biochemistry or molecular biology such as purifications; quantitative and qualitative analyses, and localizations, as well as other functional and enzymatic assays.
  • Perform experimental procedures including cryosectioning, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, and quantitative analysis using Imaris, in situ hybridization, genotyping, PCR, qPCR, and other molecular biology techniques as required by the experiment.
  • Management of several transgenic mouse colonies
  • Assist the Laboratory Manager with ordering laboratory supplies
  • Attend required laboratory meetings.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to perform specific laboratory techniques: basic animal handling/breeding (mice), genotyping by PCR, basic mouse surgeries/perfusions, tissue sectioning, and immunofluorescence.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in biological research laboratory, particularly using specific techniques listed above.

Starting Salary Range: $15.70 - $26.25 HRLY (Commensurate with experience)
