DESCRIPTION

The UCSD Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences is composed of 81 faculty and clinical fellows. The department has 7 divisions: Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Hospitalist, Complex Family Planning, and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. The department is ranked 3rd nationally in research funding compared to other OB-GYN Programs. This includes funding from the National Institutes of Health, NSF, CIRM, CDPH and other private institutions.

Under the direction of the OB/GYN and Reproductive Sciences Gynecology Oncology Division/Director and Oncology APP Supervisor, the Physician Assistant (PA) provides primary medical and surgical management for gynecology/oncology patients. Responsible for providing excellent patient care and offering a high level of compassion in managing treatment and related side effects. The PA works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. Leads by example, demonstrating professional image and leadership core competencies. Acts as a liaison within the team to promote consistent medical management of the patients across the health care continuum by collaborating with the multidisciplinary care team. May perform specialized procedures such as endometrial biopsy, colposcopy, wound care, skin biopsy, and antineoplastic therapy ordering. Presents patient cases during team meetings. Provides patient/family and staff education. Supports the development and revision of divisional policies and procedures. Participates in and/or initiates research. Participates in community outreach and networking with community physicians and other healthcare professionals. May work with and evaluate patients on clinical trials. Develops and expands role responsibilities as patient and system needs change.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a graduate from a physician assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).

  • California Physician Assistant (PA) license.

  • Current PA Certification from NCCPA.

  • BLS and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six months of hire date.

  • One (1+) or more years of experience as a licensed Physician Assistant in oncology.

  • Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. Specific qualification requirements are defined for positions by the appropriate user departments.

  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with attending physicians and the patient's primary medical team.

  • Knowledge of pathology of gynecologic oncology patient population and expected outcomes.

  • Critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to pay conscientious attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult and adolescent learning theory.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and organizing training for patients and staff.

  • Demonstrated experience diagnosing and treating oncology patients, preferably gynecologic oncology patients.

  • Demonstrated experience working independently as a Physician Assistant and exercising independent clinical judgment with demonstrated experience formulating and modifying specialized gynecology treatment plans.

  • Demonstrated experience taking detailed medical history, performing physical examinations, and interpreting findings.

  • Demonstrated understanding of normal and abnormal laboratory values, diagnostic tests, electro cardio tracings, and radiologic studies; and identification of deviations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Gynecologic oncology experience.

  • Hematology oncology and/or surgical oncology experience

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Must be willing to work flexible, variable hours.

  • Locations include La Jolla, Hillcrest, Encinitas, Vista, and Via Tazon based on Cancer Services needs.

  • Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years gained through school or work experience.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $153,259 - $201,889 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $73.40 - $96.69

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
