People * Customers * Trust The Senior Accountant role is well suited for someone who has excellent critical thinking skills and enjoys being hands-on in a variety of finance/accounting functions. Accountabilities include: Responsible for running weekly payroll and maintaining human resource files. Processing accounts payable and creating purchase orders, Provide support to the accounting, financial and reporting effort for the MD&W Railway. Prepare journal entries for monthly and quarterly close related to specifically assigned processes including but not limited to cash, accounts receivable, prepaid expenses, capital, fixed assets, inventory, accounts payable and a variety of accruals. Reconcile and/or review assigned G/L accounts to ensure accuracy and identify/resolve discrepancies. Manage multiple industry specific accounting systems to manage rail freight revenue, car hire liability, and railcar tracing. Create and maintain financial budgets and forecasts including capital requests. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance or equivalent work experience. Solid understanding and working knowledge of standard financial/accounting procedures, GAAP concepts and principles, accounting procedures and internal controls required. Strong working knowledge of PC applications preferable with exceptional knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Solid analytical and mathematical skills. Above average written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate to multiple audiences and purposes. Strong analytical skills with the ability to handle detail-oriented tasks and review multiple documents and reports. Strong listening, evaluating, and organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications: Railroad knowledge and experience. 3-5 years of accounting experience Experience with Oracle, RMI, Dayforce, Worksight, and Microsoft Access. #LI-VP1 All qualified applicants must apply at Careers.packagingcorp.com to be considered.
