Overview
Alnylam Pharmaceuticals is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to join the Customer Experience & Innovation team as the Associate Director of Commercial Data Stewardship. In this pivotal role, you will be directly responsible for ensuring the accuracy, accessibility, and governance of the organization's commercial data assets. Initially, this position will be highly operational, requiring hands-on management to maintain data accuracy and integrity while building out the long-term framework for data stewardship across the Commercial organization. You will lead cross-functional initiatives, manage vendor relationships, and establish best practices to support the organization's commercial data stewardship needs while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability. This role is ideal for someone who excels in both day-to-day operational managment and long-term strategic planning, with a passion for developing scalable data stewardship frameworks in a fast-paced environment. This position is designated as hybrid, with a requirement of 30-40% travel to Cambridge, MA Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute the organization's commercial data stewardship strategy to ensure data quality, accessibility, and governance in line with business objectives.
- Establish and enforce policies and procedures to maintain effective data stewardship.
- Align data stewardship initiatives with broader data governance strategies to maximize business value.
Operational Excellence:
- Ensure the operational effectiveness of commercial data by developing and managing processes for monitoring, quality assurance, and data lifecycle management.
- Maintain data dictionaries, catalogs, glossaries, and metadata management systems to support consistency and usability across the organization.
- Implement and enforce data stewardship standards to maintain data accuracy, completeness, and security.
- Drive automation and process improvement initiatives to streamline data stewardship, reducing manual efforts and improving data accuracy.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with business units, IT, data analytics, and other stakeholders to define roles and responsibilities related to data ownership and stewardship.
- Partner with data owners and subject matter experts to ensure consistent, high-quality data management practices.
- Lead cross-functional data stewardship committees to promote accountability and shared responsibility for data quality.
- Act as a liaison between business users and technical teams, ensuring business needs are translated into effective data stewardship requirements.
Vendor and Partner Management:
- Oversee relationships with external vendors and partners to ensure adherence to data quality and compliance standards.
- Manage data-related contracts, ensuring service-level agreements (SLAs) are met.
- Evaluate and integrate third-party data sources, ensuring alignment with governance policies.
- Collaborate with procurement and IT teams to select and manage data governance tools.
- Monitor vendor performance and take corrective actions to maintain high data quality and integrity.
Team Leadership:
- Build and lead a team of data stewards, providing coaching, mentoring, and development opportunities.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and adoption of best practices in data governance.
- Set performance goals, track progress, and ensure high-quality outcomes aligned with organizational expectations.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with data privacy and security regulations (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA) and internal policies.
- Develop and enforce governance policies and practices to minimize risks related to data breaches, inaccuracies, and misuse.
- Conduct regular audits and risk assessments, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business, Information Systems, Data Management, Computer Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in data governance or management, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing data governance frameworks and strategies in complex environments, particularly within the pharmaceutical, biotech, or healthcare industries.
- Expertise in data governance principles, data quality management, metadata management, and regulatory compliance (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA).
- Strong leadership and change management skills, with experience driving process improvements and leading teams.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset with a focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Proficiency with data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica), metadata management, data cataloging, and data quality tools.
- Experience managing vendor relationships, including contract negotiations and performance monitoring.
- Ability to thrive in complex and ambiguous environments while delivering results.
