Overview

Alnylam Pharmaceuticals is seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Director of IT Strategy and Operations to lead and manage our IT department. This role will be pivotal in shaping our technology landscape, driving innovation, and ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of IT services across the enterprise in order to enable growth, scale and delivery of technology and data services to enable therapy for our patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and Manage a Top-Tier PMO: Oversee a Program Management Office (PMO) that includes comprehensive portfolio and resource planning across the organization. Ensure long-term investment planning and project coordination, including the development and implementation of project operations methodologies, standardized processes, and templates. Enable cross IT collaboration and awareness of activities, risks and resource management. Build our common practices for functional portfolio reviews with senior leadership across the enterprise to ensure alignment of goals, progress, accountability and risk mitigation.
  • Operational Standards and Efficiency: Develop and implement operational standards for IT, leveraging ITIL principles to ensure the efficient running of technology and data operations. This includes establishing stage gates, change management processes, software asset management, and incident response protocols.
  • IT Leadership Operations: Working directly with the CIO, establish and run leadership meetings and cadence to ensure effective decision making and communication. This includes driving department-wide leadership activities such as goal reviews, audit and management action reviews, portfolio and program risk management, IT leadership offsites and regular priority reviews.
  • Finance Partnership and IT Budget Management: Collaborate closely with the finance department to manage the IT budget across all cost centers. Establish and maintain internal operations for managing variances and investments, ensuring financial efficiency and accountability. Responsible for overseeing IT long-range planning in partnership with the Finance team and enterprise planning.
  • Change Management and Communication: Create and enforce change management and communication standards for IT. This encompasses business partner communications, portfolio reviews, project change management, operational/outage communications, and IT department communications. Provide regular progress updates, announce new technology launches, organize IT All Hands meetings, and coordinate site visits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field required. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Proven ability to excel as a people manager and builder of teams.
  • Ability to leverage external resources when necessary to augment a core team of IT professionals.
  • Minimum of 12+ years of experience in IT leadership roles, with a focus on strategy and operations.
  • Proven track record of establishing and managing a successful PMO.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in budget management and financial planning.
  • In-depth knowledge of ITIL principles and operational standards.
  • Exceptional change management and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
