POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

The Chief Reliability Engineer is a critical role responsible for leading the Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) program at NASA Ames Research Center, ensuring high performance, operational safety, and continuous improvement across the center's infrastructure and test facilities. Working collaboratively with teams across test operations, facility maintenance, and engineering, you will drive initiatives that exceed quality expectations, manage risks, and support long-term operational reliability for the center's complex and diverse systems.

This opportunity is for a POTENTIAL CONTRACT award and is contingent upon the contract being awarded. Consideration for a potential contract may require a signed letter of intent. If the contract is awarded, another position posting will be available on the Company Careers portal.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)



  • Lead the RCM program to meet NASA Ames Research Center's (ARC) goals for reliability and quality, collaborating with operations, maintenance, and engineering leads to implement effective strategies.
  • Ensure alignment with ARC quality standards by leading quarterly reviews and conducting semi-annual audits. Consistently track, review, and enhance reliability practices to meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Conduct root cause analyses as required and implement corrective actions, documenting and sharing lessons learned to prevent recurrence. Ensure continuous improvement through compliance with ARC's quality and performance requirements.
  • Serve as the focal point and lead for the Risk Management Working Group. Partner with the Program Manager (PM), Deputy Program Manager (DPM), and Group Leads (GLs) to execute a robust risk management program.
  • Develop, analyze, and report complex metrics for management review and decision-making. Ensure that data-driven insights support ARC's objectives for reliability and continuous improvement.


Estimated Pay Range: $120,000 to $140,000 per year

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or business management.
  • 15 years of experience with a BS/BA or 13 years with an MS/MBA, including at least 10 years of specialized experience.
  • Specialized experience should include federal experience in Risk Management, Quality Management, Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM), and RCM.
  • Proficiency in managing multi-task contracts and subcontracts of various types and complexity, with extensive project development experience from inception to deployment.


Preferred Qualifications or Skills



  • Master's degree in engineering or an MBA is preferred.
  • Deep understanding of risk and quality management practices, with a proactive approach to identifying, analyzing, and mitigating risks.
  • Skilled in interpreting complex metrics and generating insightful analyses for effective program management.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to collaborate across departments to ensure reliability, quality, and operational excellence.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and drive a culture of continuous improvement.
