Position Summary
This will be a temporary joint Research Technician position between the Research and Development (R&D) Lab at the Athens Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, and the Georgia Electron Microscopy core facility. The technician will rotate between the two labs on a weekly basis or based on an alternate schedule agreed by both the labs.

The Georgia Electron Microscopy ( GEM) core facility strives to be a Good Lab Practice ( GLP) facility. We will involve employees to keep up with the annual Right-To-Know training and the annual Hazardous Waste Training. GEM is also a cost recovery, full-service facility in electron microscopy - both in the biological realm as well as the materials realm. We have many clients who submit samples for full-service projects/cases, and we have many users who are trained to use our facility and various pieces of equipment within GEM. Therefore, our attitude and demeaner must always be to provide what services are needed (and we can provide) to our clients.
Athens Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory - R&D Laboratory
The R&D research team focuses on developing new assays and diagnostic workflows to diagnose bacterial, viral, and fungal infections in animals and humans. The laboratory technician's primary duties are to help plan, organize, and conduct research in support of the mentioned research fields and provide technical training to students and volunteers in the lab. The individual will assist with various tasks, including managing day-to-day operations, data collection and processing, and data analyses.

Georgia Electron Microscopy - Biological EM Laboratory
This position will be focused on assisting with electron microscopy analysis of biological samples for both internal to UGA and external users of the center. These duties include making up fixatives, buffers, and other solutions; tissue processing; and general lab maintenance/care with the aim of assisting present center staff in biological imaging. Further, Georgia Electron Microscopy ( GEM) core facility strives to be a Good Lab Practice ( GLP) facility and requires employees to keep up with the annual Right-To-Know training and the annual Hazardous Waste Training.
