About the Department
Criminal Justice and Criminology
Housed in the internationally recognized Andrew Young School of Policy Studies ( AYSPS), our department leverages its location in downtown Atlanta to engage in crime and criminal justice policy issues on local and national levels. Emphasizing innovation and student success, the department's goal is to prepare students and professionals to meet the evolving demands of advancing the public good across the fields of criminology and criminal justice, and related policy areas. To meet this goal, our department offers degrees at the baccalaureate and masters (both in-person and online), and doctoral levels. The BS program supports two areas of concentration, including legal studies and crime and justice. We also have a minor in Criminal Justice and recently launched a fully online minor in Digital Criminology. Our 20 faculty members are involved in a wide array of research and public service efforts, work closely with numerous state and local criminal justice agencies, and have a history of significant funding from federal, state, and local agencies. The department serves as the home for the Evidence-Based Cyber Security Research Group. As a key signature experience in the BS program, our majors are required to complete a 160-hour internship experience during their senior year. Over 350 participating agencies ranging from police, courts, law, corrections, juvenile justice, mental health, and cyber and physical security serve as host sites in the internship program. The internship program also offers research internships that are hosted by faculty in the department. The individual hired into this position will be expected to contribute significantly to the core mission of the internship program in particular and our undergraduate program in general.
Our department also houses three peer-reviewed journals ( Criminology, Criminal Justice Review, and International Criminal Justice Review), and is a key member of various University research centers, including the Partnership for Urban Health Research, the Urban Studies Institute, and the Center for Research on Interpersonal Violence. The department has also taken the lead on a component of the AYSPS Digital Landscape Initiative ( https://aysps.gsu.edu/digital-landscape/) geared toward scholarship involving computational sciences and the widespread use of cost-free materials for students and researchers. Position Description
The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Georgia State University invites applications for a non-tenure-track, Clinical Assistant Professor position beginning August 2025. The position is a nine month appointment with annual review, in-person and online teaching responsibilities, and the possibility of summer teaching. A Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or substantively relevant field of study or J.D. is required. ABDs may apply, but degree must be in hand by the start of employment. We are seeking applicants whose primary experience or interest is in developing and coordinating signature or experiential learning opportunities for undergraduate students. This position is located on the Atlanta campus of Georgia State University and requires in-person, on campus-based work. The Andrew Young School maintains a flexible work environment.
Required Experience
University teaching experience is required.
Required Education
A Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or substantively relevant field of study or J.D. is required. ABDs may apply, but a degree must be ready by the start of employment.

A record of service involving, along with the capacity to develop experiential learning opportunities (e.g., internship program, college to-career initiatives, capstone experiences).
