Under the supervision of the Sibley Assistant Director, Patient Safety & Quality, the Patient Safety & Quality Specialist will have the responsibility of assisting in the coordination of patient safety and quality initiatives as outlined in the organizational Operating Plan, Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI), and Patient Safety Plan.

The Patient Safety & Quality (PSQ) Specialist is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient safety and quality principles and practices throughout the Sibley Memorial Hospital. The position encompasses various roles including coordinator, educator, facilitator, and leader and requires effective interpersonal and management skills to motivate leaders and staff. PSQ Specialists embrace High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles and demonstrate them consistently. They are considered a patient safety and quality improvement subject matter expert and a resource for interdisciplinary performance improvement projects.

Work Location: Washington, DC at Sibley Memorial Hospital

Full time Days 8am-4:30pm (flexible)

Minimum Education and Experience Required:




  1. Clinical experience required such as nursing, pharmacy, etc.
  2. Minimum five (5) years hospital-based experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience working in Quality Improvement, Regulatory Compliance and/or Patient Safety.
  3. Master's degree preferred in clinical profession of relevance. Preferred Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt or higher. Trained in design-thinking, Human Factors, and CUSP methodologies preferred. Higher degree, if required by professional licensing board in clinical profession.
  4. Preferred certification within 2 years in:

    1. Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or
    2. Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS)





Salary Range: Minimum 46.79 per hour - Maximum 74.87 per hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
