Manufacturing Engineer/Programmer - Mill-Turn

The Manufacturing Engineer/Programmer prepares detailed manufacturing instructions and programming data to produce machined parts and subassemblies to meet engineering drawings and specifications. The incumbent will determine manufacturing procedures and operation sequencing and establish tooling, gauging and machine requirements to fabricate parts and subassemblies for various products. Prepare detailed operation sheets and N/C programs, make estimates of setup, and run hours for production parts and estimate design and build hours for tooling. Assist Group Leader to prepare cost estimates for new proposals. May technically guide or train Associate Manufacturing Engineers. Knowledge of Mill-Turn style CNC programming is a plus.

The incumbent must also spend time in the production shops solving problems and improving processes associated with the parts he/she is responsible for. These problems may arise for any number of reasons such as tooling, machine tool, gauging, heat treating, and plating. The solution of these problems may require the Manufacturing Engineer/Programmer's decision alone or could result in contacting and working with the Group Leader, Moog Product or Design Engineers, Quality Assurance personnel, Moog Metallurgist, Inspectors, Production supervision, Purchasing, Production Scheduling, or Moog vendors. As a result, the Manufacturing Engineer/Programmer must not only possess the human relations skills necessary to work effectively with a variety of people but must also have the initiative to contact other groups when a problem solution so requires.

Responsibilities:

  • Support timely and efficient processing of parts through the fabrication area by generating operation sheets and manufacturing procedures on assigned parts.
  • Assure compatibility of engineering drawings and specifications with manufacturing and fabrication capabilities by reviewing drawing and making suggestions for changes and revisions to enhance producibility.
  • Provide accurate and useable N/C programming tapes by converting detailed N/C program outlines into specific coded machine instructions. Also assists machine operators with program proveout.
  • Coordinates with various departments and team members to assure the most effective design and use of manufacturing facilities and processes.
  • Establishes standard times for setup and run of each operation on assigned parts.
  • Originates and/or makes studies directed towards more efficient manufacturing of parts. Includes recommendations ions for changes in equipment, processes methods, materials and designs.
  • Prepares rework operation sheets for salvage of discrepant parts. Follows through with corrective action to reduce possibility of reoccurrence of discrepant parts.
  • May work with Moog vendors to coordinate operation sheets containing outside and inside operations.
  • The incumbent will be expected (after training) to use computer systems to aid in producing N/C programs.
  • Assists Group Leader on cost estimating effort on new proposals.
  • Assure the acceptance and practice of fundamental safety principles by employees and management.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
    • Or an Associate's degree and minimum of 6 years relevant professional experience
    • Or a High School diploma and minimum of 8 years relevant professional experience
  • 3 + years' experience in Mill Turn CNC programming utilizing CAD/CAM
  • Experience in process engineering from raw material to finished goods
  • Hands on experience setting up and operating machines
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills to work effectively with a variety of people and teams

Salary Range Transparency:

Buffalo, NY $75,000.00-$115,000.00 Annually

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees.
