Winston & Strawn is seeking to hire a Practice Attorney to join our Environmental department in our Chicago office. Please see the job description below.
As a Practice Attorney in the Environmental department, you will be an integral member of the practice and will gain meaningful experience working with our attorneys and our Fortune 500 clients. Candidates must have 2-4 years of experience and knowledge of environmental regulations, particularly the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and hazardous waste regulations. Experience working on corporate and energy related transactions is preferred. Litigation experience helpful, but position is transaction/regulatory focused. The position is not a partnership track position.

Qualifications include:
  • JD from an ABA-accredited law school, with current admission in Illinois;
  • Excellent academic credentials;
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills;
  • Detail-oriented, problem-solving hard worker;
  • Strong interest in a career giving advice on environmental, health, and safety concerns;
  • Self-motivated and disciplined;
  • Organized and focused;
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Specific tasks to be performed:

  • Conducting due diligence and drafting diligence memoranda in connection with the merger and acquisition of corporate entities and the development and financing of renewable energy projects;
  • Researching and advising clients on issues related to environmental, health, and safety compliance;
  • Drafting memoranda providing legal advice;
  • Tracking environmental, health, and safety regulatory developments;
  • Analyzing Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act permitting issues;
  • Supporting litigation projects;
  • Contributing to the department's environmental blog, Environmental Law Update.
