Senior Roadway Engineer

Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a candidate for a full-time Senior Roadway Engineer position in our Indianapolis, IN office.

Position Profile

This person is expected to work as part of multidisciplinary design teams to plan and execute transportation projects for various clients, including local governments and state departments of transportation. Projects are likely to include reconstruction and rehabilitation of rural highways and roads, urban highways and streets, major urban thoroughfares, urban and rural bridge replacements, culverts and storm sewer, intersections, sidewalks and multiuse paths, rail grade crossings, signing, pavement marking, and traffic control plans for construction. The position requires the ability to serve as a key member of the project design team, supervise and provide direction to junior-level staff in the areas of roadway design. The position requires working on various road-related projects, taking direction from multiple project managers, and coordinating with other staff.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review complex design calculations.
  • Prepare construction documents for urban and rural roadway projects.
  • Manage a team and develop junior staff.
  • Work with project managers to develop project scope and hours for related tasks.
  • Work with local governments and DOT's to deliver projects.
  • Deliver roadway design tasks on time and within budget.
  • As a member of the Roadway Discipline, provide technical support to all markets.
  • Interact with clients to discuss existing and future projects.
  • Contribute to project pursuits.
  • Coordinate with project managers and roadway discipline managers to help track local backlog and staff utilization.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Training:

  • A bachelor's degree in civil engineering is required.
  • 5 or more years of progressive roadway engineering experience is desired.
  • Professional Engineer license in state of assigned office or the ability to reciprocate a license from another state within 6 months.
  • Management experience is desirable, but not mandatory.

Skills:

  • Building effective relationships with internal and external client bases.
  • Mentoring junior technical staff.
  • Provide staff training recommendations.
  • Oral communication and technical writing skills.
  • Experience with Microstation/PowerGeopak/Inroads (OpenRoads Connect or SS4) or AutoCAD/Civil3D software is desirable.

Working at Hanson:

  • Must be able to collaborate remotely with colleagues in other offices.
  • Candidate must be willing to accept out-of-town travel assignments and to work overtime to meet project demands.
  • Hybrid work schedule available.

Salary range: $90,000 - $140,000
