Position
CEMS is a multi-discipline 50+ person AE firm with offices in Summerville, SC and Wilmington, NC. We specialize in a wide array of medium scale commercial building projects with an emphasis on preparing Comprehensive Interior Design (CID) packages for the Federal Government. CEMS is seeking an ambitious licensed interior designer that is eager to grow their career and CEMS' interiors department. This position is fulltime permanent and located at the Summerville, SC office. CEMS offers a competitive benefits package including 401(k) and continuing education reimbursement
Job Location:
This position is located in our Summerville, SC office, which is 20 minutes from downtown Charleston.
Job Description:

  • Develop documents with Revit for all phases of a project.
  • Develop specifications in SpecsIntact and MSWord per MasterFormat.
  • Develop in Revit rendered interior models for presentations.
  • Develop and assemble FF&E, CID, and SID packages for Federal, State and Local agencies.
  • Develop and assemble finish color and material boards.
  • Meet, consult, and develop relationships with manufacturers, vendors, consultants, and clients.
  • Develop cost estimates for interior finishes and furnishings.
  • Assist in construction administration by responding to RFIs, preparing sketches, and visiting the construction site to gather information and/or prepare a punch list.
  • Perform other assigned duties as deemed necessary by supervisor.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Interior Design or related field
  • 3 years post-graduate experience in an architectural firm, or related design setting, designing interiors packages on medium scale commercial building projects.
  • Must be able to obtain NCIDQ certificate within two years.
  • Basic understanding of Revit and the BIM concept. Candidates without Revit experience will not be considered.
  • Ability to pass a background check in pursuit of obtaining access onto military bases and federal installations.
  • Ability to travel out of state with occasional overnight stay.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication, teamwork, and collaboration.
  • Ability to perform tasks independently and in a logical and timely manner.
  • Strong verbal, written and graphical communication skills.
  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate design ideas and concepts.
  • Ability to see the big picture as well as focus on the details.
  • Have a strong work ethic and be able to handle multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to prepare for and lead design presentations with current and potential clients.
  • Working knowledge of interior design materials, finishes, furniture, and pricing.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Currently holding an NCIDQ certificate.
  • Proficiency in the following current software releases: Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Windows 10, SpecsIntact, SketchUp, 3D Studio Max.
  • Experience creating CID and SID packages meeting the requirements of Federal, State and local agencies (primarily GSA, DOS, DOD)
  • Prior construction administration (CA) experience


Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously from conceptual design through construction documents. This position is a tremendous growth opportunity where the ideal candidate will be challenged with growing the interiors depart over time. Individual must be proactive and be capable of building relationships with vendors, clients, consultants and so forth. Note, experienced non-licensed interior designers or licensed architects with comparable interior design experience will NOT be considered.
