The Department of Urban Studies and Planning (DUSP) is the School of Social Sciences' newest department. It builds off of the 40 years of success and history of the USP Program as one of UC San Diego's leading interdisciplinary programs which is widely acknowledged as one of the best of its kind in the nation based on the caliber of its faculty and alumni. DUSP offers two undergraduate degrees: the B.A. in Urban Studies and Planning and the B.S. in Real Estate and Development. Both degrees are comprised of rigorous requirements including a final capstone project. DUSP faculty and students have deep connections and collaborate frequently with community and industry partners.

The Black Studies Project (BSP) at UC San Diego focuses on three areas that are vital to contemporary African American and African Diaspora Studies and central to the study of life, history, politics, cultural production, and social movements in the US and globally: Intersectional Analysis of Race, Class, Gender, and Sexuality; Transnational and Diasporic Studies; and Social Justice Movements. Since the initial conception and launch of BSP, program offerings have grown to include a speaker series, national research collaborations, a set of academic fellowships (faculty, pre-doctoral, dissertation, and post-doctoral), a Social Justice Fellows program to sustain connections between local artists and organizers, and an Undergraduate Research Internship Program. While program offerings are growing, long-term vitality for the BSP community requires effective infrastructure and creative strategic ideas that support growth while supporting intellectual life on a smaller, yet vibrant scale.

This position will part-time career supporting the Department of Urban Studies and Planning (DUSP) at 25% time and the Black Studies Project (BSP) at 25% time, and report to the DUSP Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and the Department of Ethnic Studies Chief Administrative Officer for BSP.

Serve as the logistical coordinator for domestic and international conferences, workshops, seminars, lectures and special events. Develop event/seminar/workshop budgets and tracks expenses to stay within budget parameters for each event. Design and disseminate marketing event information via flyers, mailings, brochures and social media. Coordinate with the International Center on non-immigrant visa applications for foreign participants attending conferences within the US and assist foreign visitors with visas and immigration regulations.
