Director, Vendor Management

Job Summary:

The Director, Vendor Management is responsible for the management and oversight of assigned Suppliers/Categories (CRO's, ARO's and Phase I Units). This role involves strategic planning and execution of vendor governance meetings, serving as the primary contact and escalation point at the relationship level, and monitoring and managing vendor performance. Additionally, the Director will work closely with Expertise Areas to implement vendor process improvement initiatives. The role will involve collaborating with senior management to drive organizational success.

Reports to the Senior Director or VP, Vendor Management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Vendor Management: Overall relationship and portfolio performance for the suppliers/categories listed above.
  • Governance Meetings: Plan and execute vendor governance meetings to ensure alignment and performance.
  • Primary Contact & Escalation Point: Act as the main point of contact for vendors and manage escalations at the relationship level.
  • Performance Management: In partnership with EA's, set performance targets, monitor progress, and implement corrective actions as necessary. Ensure contractual and organizational expectations are met.
  • Process Improvement: In collaboration with Suppliers and EAs identify and implement vendor process improvement initiatives.
  • Financial Oversight: Manage portfolio of business exceeding $500M in value, supporting all clinical trials in the Development portfolio.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive initiatives and build strong partnerships.
  • Reporting & Analysis: Provide regular performance reports and analyses to senior management.
  • Strategic Leadership: Lead/participate in Trial Delivery Optimization initiatives, intended to drive efficiency, quality and progression of our explosive pipeline.
  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to safeguard departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Reporting & Analysis: Provide regular reports and analyses to senior management, highlighting key metrics and insights.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in senior management or vendor management within the global clinical research or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven track record of managing high-value contracts and vendor relationships.
  • Strong leadership, team management and strategic planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient in relevant software/tools for vendor management and reporting.

  • Decision Making: Exceptional problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
  • Collaboration: Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Adaptability: Flexible and able to manage change effectively.
  • Knowledge: Experience in pharmaceutical/biotechnology and extensive knowledge of drug development processes, ICH-GCP guidelines, 21 CRF Part 11, and major Health Authority regulations as they pertain to the operational aspects of clinical trials
  • Ability to travel up to 30%
