Qualifications:
- Graduate from an accredited school of respiratory therapy
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Registered by the State of Minnesota (CRT Licensure)
- Three years previous experience within a critical care/ED environment preferred
Job Responsibilities:
- Provides respiratory care to patients at the hospital:
- Ventilator
- Bipap/Cpap
- Incentive spirometry
- Aerosol/MDI treatments
- NT suctioning
- ET suctioning
- CPT/PEP therapy
- Monitors patient's physiological response to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial, and venous blood gases. Consults with the hospitalist if adverse reactions occur.
- Works as a team in a multidisciplinary environment to provide care and provide recommendations for appropriate therapy.
- Assists with monitoring the central station for end tidal CO2 and SPO2 of patients.
- Educates patients and families about their conditions and teaches appropriate disease management techniques.
- Works with patients and families to set up home oxygen therapy.
- Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
- Responds to all rapid response and codes called within the hospital with appropriate equipment.
- Monitors respiratory supplies and equipment as needed.
- Monitors EHR for accurate charging of respiratory related supplies, equipment, and oxygen use.
- Monitors compliance for charting incentive spirometry for all healthcare personnel.
- Makes rounds within the hospital departments to assess any future patient respiratory care needs, communicates with charge nurses and house supervisors.
- Checks respiratory equipment and supplies for availability and outdates.
- Assists in the development and implementation of respiratory policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Monitors respiratory supplies and equipment as needed.
- Monitors EHR for accurate charging of respiratory related supplies, equipment, and oxygen use.
- Monitors compliance for charting incentive spirometry for all healthcare personnel.
- Other duties as assigned.
