Job Summary

Tulsa Community College (TCC) seeks a passionate, bilingual (English/Spanish) faculty member in Child Development and Education to teach courses, oversee a specialized internship program for interns, and support the hiring of ESL adjunct faculty. This position is designed for an individual with a strong commitment to supporting students in their educational and career pathways, especially in the context of early childhood education (ECE). The successful candidate will bring expertise in child development and education, strong mentoring abilities, and a deep understanding of underserved populations.


Essential Duties

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Teaching & Curriculum Development:
    • Teach college and certificate courses in Child Development and Education.
    • Develop and update course content to ensure it aligns with best practices in ECE and meets the needs of learners.
    • Provide a curriculum that integrates the unique educational needs of students, focusing on practical, applied learning experiences in ECE.
    • Availability to teach day and evening classes.
    • May require occasional work on Saturdays.
  1. Internship Program Oversight:
    • Supervise interns completing their Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate requirements.
    • Collaborate with our community partner (Tulsa Educare, Inc.) to ensure interns get the appropriate internship experience.
    • Guide and mentor interns through their practical experience, offering support and constructive feedback on their professional growth.
    • Monitor intern progress, conduct site visits, and ensure that interns meet the required competencies for CDA certification.
    • Collaborate with program faculty and scholarship offices.
  2. ESL Faculty Recruitment & Supervision:
    • Collaborate with ESL adjunct faculty to develop course materials that are linguistically appropriate for our students and supportive of their transition into the ECE field.
    • Foster a collaborative, supportive environment between ESL adjunct faculty and Child Development faculty to ensure effective integration of language and content learning.
  1. Community Engagement & Advocacy:
    • Engage with local community organizations, childcare centers, and family services to build strong partnerships that support internship and employment opportunities for our students.
    • Advocate for and support the needs of underserved populations in the early childhood education field.
    • Attend and represent the program at community events, conferences, and other relevant professional activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a closely related field.

Language fluency in both English and Spanish (written and spoken).

Proven experience working with underserved communities and understanding cultural and educational needs, especially in the context of child development.

Demonstrated experience teaching and mentoring students, particularly immigrant or bilingual adult students.

Experience in or a commitment to working in a bilingual educational environment.

Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and community partners.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience with ESL teaching or supervising ESL instructors, particularly in the context of early childhood education.

Previous experience developing and overseeing internship programs or practicum placements for students in the ECE or related field.

Knowledge of best practices in adult education and language acquisition, particularly for bilingual students.

Familiarity with relevant teaching practices and differentiated instruction.

Strong organizational and communication skills, with an ability to manage multiple responsibilities and work effectively in a team.

Knowledge of the CDA (Child Development Associate)
