Under supervision of the Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Director, the candidate will serve as an Assistant Architect in the Land Use Review unit within the Division of Legal Affairs. This position will primarily be responsible for the coordination of review of all MTA projects for Master Lease purposes which will involve reviewing site plans, survey, and any plans and drawings related to the project proposals; and coordinating the review process. The selected candidate will also be responsible for performing work related to land use issues including review of various types of applications such as ULURP, license agreements and waiver applications; conduct topographical research and gather information from various agencies; consult with other DOT divisions for their opinion, conduct field survey, investigations; participate in meetings; analyze land use issues and prepare maps using ArcGIS for land use purposes; review design plans, sketches, maps, and other technical drawings and make necessary recommendations; prepare correspondence for supervisor's review; respond to inquiries from various communities and elected officials and their constituencies related to street system and land use issues; provide assistance to and coordinate work with other Divisions of DOT; engage in investigations and studies pertaining to land use, provide authoritative interpretations of New York City tax maps and City maps. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
***THIS PER DIEM POSITION IS FULL-TIME (35 HOURS PER WEEK) AND IS PAID AS HOURLY RATE. PER DIEM EMPLOYEES WHO WORK 35 HOURS PER WEEK RECEIVE HEALTH AND DENTAL BENEFITS. LEAVE ACCRUAL RATES FOR ANNUAL AND SICK LEAVE IS BASED ON HOURS WORKED. CANDIDATES APPOINTED FROM THE CIVIL SERVICE LIST WILL RECEIVE PAID HOLIDAYS IMMEDIATELY. CANDIDATES APPOINTED PROVISIONALLY WILL RECEIVE PAID HOLIDAYS AFTER 18 MONTHS OF FULL-TIME EMPLOYMENT.***
Minimum Qualifications 1. A Bachelor or a Master of Architecture degree that is the first professional degree in architecture from an accredited college; or 2. A Bachelor of Science degree in architecture that is the first four years of a five-year first professional degree program in architecture from an accredited college and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in architectural work; or 3. A valid New York State Registration as an Architect. The following are examples of four-year degrees that are NOT acceptable to meet the education requirement: Bachelor of Science in Architectural Technology; Bachelor of Professional Studies in Architecture; Bachelor of Science in Fine Arts issued by the Architectural Department of a college; Bachelor of Science in Art and Design issued by the Architectural Department of a college. Note: A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York may be required for certain assignments. If required, this license must be maintained for the duration of the assignment.
Preferred Skills
Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong familiarity with New York City real estate and land use processes desired. GIS experience preferred. Preference given to candidates with New York City government experience, as well as NYC zoning and land use experience.
