The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks a highly organized and enthusiastic technician to join the Center for Advanced Laboratory Medicine (CALM).

The primary responsibilities of this position include: participation in day-to-day laboratory research projects under the direction of the Principal Investigator and lab manager. Skills frequently utilized to complete daily tasks include: basic lab skills (e.g. pipetting, loading a gel), phlebotomy, and sterile technique

A successful candidate will be a self-starter, work well within teams, have excellent organizational and record keeping skills, and be able to multi-task while maintaining precision and quickness.

Responsibilities



  • 25% - Collecting samples
  • 25% - Processing samples
  • 20% - Recording/analyzing data
  • 15% - General lab maintenance
  • 10% - Running samples
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications



  • The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, highly organized, able to multi-task, take initiative, start and complete projects.
  • This position requires the technical ability to complete procedures and properly record and report results.
  • Applicants with experience in animal colony management and animal husbandry are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with flow cytometry, PCR, Western blotting, and/or recombinant DNA will be an advantage.
  • Programming in R or Python is preferred but not essential to start.
