The Department of Medicine (DOM) is the largest department within the UC San Diego School of Medicine (SOM) and is responsible for fulfilling its teaching, research, and clinical missions. DOM employs approximately 500 salaried faculty, nearly 200 academic appointees, and more than 300 residents, fellows, and postdocs, supported by almost 1,000 staff members. This position serves as a member of Medicine Leadership team. Under direction of the Division Chiefs, and with administrative direction from the Departmental Administrative Vice Chair, the Division Administrator is responsible for all aspect of management of all aspects of financial and operational activities of the assigned units, including the management of the divisional programs, centers, fellowship programs, recruitment of faculty in both clinical and research arenas, negotiation and implementation of faculty salaries (under the purview and direction of the of the Divisions Chiefs) and the development, management and projections associated with complex academic, research and clinical compensation plans. The Division Administrator is also responsible for development of operational reporting structure, growth and development of staff regardless of reporting relationship, achieving goals and objectives through initiative and management leadership, collaborative skill with, faculty, medical center, medical group, School of Medicine and other campus resources. The Division Administrator is responsible for all aspects of the divisional program development, contract negotiations, implementation and administration of all operating activities. Will negotiate resources for program development, provide overall fiscal/budgetary management, project management, special contracting and outreach activities, including referral and program development. Identifies and facilitates equipment and space solutions in partnership with the various school and departmental entities. They are expected to develop strong professional and collaborative relationships and efforts at all levels. Using consensus building management style, will collaborate on the management of divisional goals, working with division chiefs, clinical service chiefs, department leadership and medical center leaders. The Division Administrator will work with the Division of Gastroenterology and other Academic Divisions as assigned by the Administrative Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine. The Division Administrator will work directly with approximately 90 faculty members and 40+ staff employees. The position will be responsible for the financial management of a portfolio up to $50 million in academic, clinical and research revenue per year. Independently oversees a moderately sized academic or research program and represents the program to outside organizations. Assists with the design and development of academic or research program components and administers the full range of the program components and operational requirements; administrative, finance, human resources, and facilities for the academic or research program. Works with faculty on formulating short-term planning and procedures of the programs. Develops and organizes conferences and other public forums. Works under direction of Principal Investigator to establish center agenda, funding, objectives. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $104,900 - $198,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $50.24 - $95.26 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
