About the Department
The College of Agriculture & Life Sciences Office of Research Administration ( CALS ORA) at NCSU oversees externally sponsored programs, providing comprehensive cradle-to-grave support. CALS ORA assists with identifying funding sources, proposal development, project management, and ensuring compliance with fiscal and regulatory requirements.
As the administrative unit responsible for research compliance, CALS ORA ensures adherence to federal, state, and university policies, manages grants and contracts, and serves as the point of contact for audits. Focused on proposal development, regulatory compliance, and fiscal oversight, CALS ORA supports faculty and staff while safeguarding the university from compliance risks and financial liabilities.
Essential Job Duties
The Senior Post-Award Consultant role, is a highly independent role where you'll be responsible for interpreting policies, managing complex financial portfolios, and ensuring compliance with both university and agency requirements. You will be a key player in supporting research excellence, providing guidance, and ensuring the continued success of funded research projects.
Key Responsibilities include but aren't limited to:

  • Provide comprehensive financial management for complex research portfolios, including budgeting, HR commitments, and no-cost extensions.
  • Ensure compliance with sponsor guidelines and university policies, advising faculty on fund availability and timing.
  • Manage post-award consultant's workflow, change request approvals, and closeout processes.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, assisting with large-scale projects and offering training to new staff on grant management practices.
  • Act as a backup for other Senior Post-Award Consultants, contributing to collaborative problem-solving across teams.
  • Provide training to CALS community in specialized research areas as related to management of grants.

Other Responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to grow and develop by actively participating in the successful reorganization of the CALS Shared Service Center. You'll contribute to professional development training, process improvement initiatives, and information-gathering meetings that drive continuous improvement. As part of the team, you will help implement new processes and phases, ensuring smooth transitions and optimizing workflows. You may get the chance to take on additional duties and responsibilities, with ample room for personal and professional growth as the role evolves.
Qualifications


Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of business practices, including budgeting, forecasting, and human resources management.
  • Experience managing contracts and grants, particularly those subject to OMB Circular A-21 and/or Uniform Guidance.
  • Proven ability to plan, direct, and evaluate the work of others, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Skilled in initiating and implementing administrative programs and procedures, with the ability to assess their effectiveness.
  • Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to exercise judgment, discretion, and initiative in developing and interpreting policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental personnel, university officials, sponsors, and the public.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a commitment to meeting customer needs and providing exceptional service.
  • Highly organized and adaptable, able to manage workloads efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven background working with grants at a large public institution.
  • Expertise in interpreting and analyzing grant requirements and planning strategically for fund utilization.
  • Demonstrated experience managing contracts and grants subject to OMB Circular A-21 and/or Uniform Guidance.
  • Proficiency with relevant software such as RADAR, Peoplesoft (Financials, Human and PMRS), TEARS, and/or WolfPack Reports.
