THE OPPORTUNITY
The University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) Medical School seeks an experienced and innovative individual to serve as Associate Dean for Admissions. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring excellence in all aspects of the UTSW's medical student admissions process for our MD, MD/PhD, and MD/MPH programs. The Associate Dean is a member of the medical education leadership team and has broad programmatic oversight for its Admissions. The Medical School has a strong institutional commitment to excellence, innovation, and professionalism and seeks an individual who shares that commitment.
The candidate must have an MD degree (or equivalent) and have a significant record of leadership in medical education and involvement in teaching and/or mentoring activities. Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal communication and collaboration skills to effectively serve as part of the medical education leadership team. Prior administrative experience in a medical education and admissions committee setting is highly desirable. This is a full-time position; the successful candidate will be expected to expend 40% effort as the Associate Dean for Admissions and 60% effort related to clinical and/or research effort.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT & LEADERSHIP
Set strategic medical student admission goals that align with the mission of UT Southwestern Medical School.
Develop and implement admissions policies and procedures that ensure compliance with Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation standards, Texas Medical & Dental School Application Service (TMDSAS), and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
Collaborate with Medical School Deans, Faculty, the Chair of the Admissions Committee, and other stakeholders to continuously reflect on and improve the admissions process.
Work closely with the Director of the Admissions Committee on all matters related to the recruitment process.
Lead recruitment initiatives including interview presentations, campus visits, and collaborate in the planning of second look weekend events.
Coordinate with the Office of Medical Education and Office of Student Affairs to direct admissions data analysis initiatives and continuous quality improvement (CQI) efforts. Utilize data driven approaches to drive and align admissions processes with the goals and objectives of the institution.
Collaborate with the Deans for the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and the School of Public Health to ensure consistency in admissions for dual degree programs.
Serve as a key member of the senior leadership team for the School of Medicine in collaboration with counterparts within the University of Texas system and other external constituencies.
Represent the UTSW and Office of Admissions at local and national / recruitment medical education meetings.
Attendance at local, regional, and national advisory conferences/meeting related to medical student admissions (e.g., TMDSAS match).
Works closely with the Joint Admissions Medical Program (JAMP) on successful pipeline programs at UTSW.
LCME Compliance:
Maintain thorough understanding of LCME accreditation standards applicable to the admissions program. Direct efforts to document and describe institutional processes for medical student selection, assignment, and admissions.
Prepare for and participate in LCME accreditation visits, providing comprehensive documentation and evidence of compliance in medical student admissions processes.
Monitor and report on LCME requirements and adjust policies and procedures as needed as it relates to medical student admissions.
Holistic Review Process:
Lead the implementation and ongoing refinement of a holistic review process that evaluates applicants based on a broad range of attributes, experiences, and metrics beyond academic performance.
Along with the Chair of the Admissions Committee and the Admissions Director, train admissions committee members and staff on holistic review practices emphasizing the importance of values consistent with the missions of UTSW SOM.
Analyze and utilize outcomes data to continually assess and improve the effectiveness of the holistic review process.
Develop and implement strategies to attract and admit a diverse cohort of students who will contribute to the mission of the medical school.
Work closely with the Associate Dean(s) for Student Affairs and Office of Student Engagement and Empowerment to align admissions strategies with institutional educational goals.
PROGRAMMATIC OVERSIGHT
Lead and provide oversight of the Office of Admissions and supervise the Director of Admissions.
Collaborate with the Chair of the Admissions Committee to develop and implement appropriate policies and procedures for the identification, evaluation, and recruitment of exceptional and diverse medical student body members.
Oversees the administration of financial aid programs and service for medical students.
Works closely with the Director of Financial Aid to ensure the schools' financial aid practices comply with federal, state, and institutional regulations.
Works closely with the Scholarship committee on process for awarding grants for students, selection of students for special scholarships
Support the admissions office's efforts to ensure the efficient processing of applications, including the use of technology to streamline admissions workflows.
Engage in committee service as required by the role.
