Postdoctoral Associate - Glaunsinger Lab

Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI)
United States, California, Berkeley
November 16, 2022
Primary Work Address: 2033 Valley Life Sciences Building, Berkeley, CA, 94720-3140 Current HHMI Employees, click here to apply via your Workday account.

The Glaunsinger lab at the University of California, Berkeley has a position open for a postdoctoral associate who will complement and extend our existing expertise. We study how viruses repurpose and alter cellular gene regulation machinery to create an environment favorable to viral replication, as well as how cells respond to viral invasion. We primarily work with oncogenic herpesviruses, although the lab leverages both DNA and RNA viruses to reveal new aspects of gene regulation. Research projects fall under 3 main categories:

1. Viral proteins that broadly restrict host gene expression: their targeting mechanisms, how select transcripts escape this restriction, and how cells sense and respond to infection-induced changes in mRNA abundance.

2. How oncogenic DNA viruses selectively induce and co-opt noncoding RNA by activating RNA polymerase III.

3. Viral mimicry and co-option of mammalian transcription factors.

We are dedicated to creating a culture of belonging, in which people of all backgrounds are welcome and can thrive as scientists and as individuals. We think that scientific excellence and creativity are best achieved through the collective efforts, approaches, and ideas of a diverse lab group. Postdocs who are interested in an academic career are welcome to take their projects and reagents with them to start their new lab.
