POSITION TITLE: Temporary Research Assistant II, Compound Management Group (Full-Time, 6 months)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Compound Management Group (CMG) is a central hub for all small molecule drug discovery projects within Calibr-Skaggs. It assists various teams and departments by registering and fulfilling various requests of dry and solution-based compound samples. The group coordinates the quality, quantity, location, and transfer of molecules which requires accuracy, organization, and detail-oriented work. This position will work directly with other members of the Compound Management Group to ensure the work of small molecule drug discovery can be executed.

• Able to work effectively under limited supervision, to be an independent contributor, lead and collaborate with others
• Actively, effectively and professionally communicates with manager, peers, team members and scientists within Calibr
• Demonstrates initiative and expertise as the subject matter expert in complex tasks to support broad responsibilities in CMG
• Demonstration of leadership qualities and decision-making abilities
• Provides continual analysis of existing workflows; investigate, troubleshoot, and modify methods and procedures
• Regularly contributes to team meeting discussions, provide feedback and updates on workflows, tasks and responsibilities
• Routine communication to stakeholders and completion of tasks undertaken in a timely manner
• Demonstrates excellence in personal time management, quantity and quality of work
• Able to adapt or pivot in workflows to overcome challenges
• Execution of a training plan for other CMG personnel

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Key operator (maintain and perform basic troubleshooting) of CMG automation equipment (i.e. the SPT compound, the Tecan and Bravo liquid handlers and Echo acoustic dispensers)
• Transfer compounds between vials and plates
• Weigh compounds using analytical balance and accurately record results
• Solubilize compounds from powder to liquid stock
• Devise new or optimize / troubleshoot existing strategies to streamline workflows
• Lead at least one complex project as a subject matter expert
• Supervision of interns and / or research technicians in CMG
• Registration of chemical compounds
• Completion of non-standard intake processes of compounds from collaborators or with non-standard labware
• Maintain inventory of compounds including information about location, quantity, and quality
• Generate and complete order requests for compounds according to SOPs
• Weigh compounds using analytical balance and accurately record results
• Document, interpret and accurately record data in databases
• Read analytical data from instruments including, but not limited to, single quad LC/MS systems

REQUIREMENTS:

• Requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline, 3-5 years direct Compound Management experience or comparable where demonstrated skill and abilities have been attained. Candidates possessing a Master's degree, 2+ years' experience required.
• Good organizational, record keeping, and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively and independently in an interdisciplinary, team-oriented, collaborative, high performance environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

May include stationary position for an extended period of time, traverse campus/facility as needed, operate machinery such as computer, phone, copy machine, exposure to cold or hot temperatures.

COMPENSATION

The expected hiring range for this position is $66,560 to $79,500, commensurate with experience.
