Work Hours: Full Time / Day Shift: 8:30am-5pm Monday-Friday

Work Location: Saint Petersburg, FL- Esoteric Lab

Position Summary:




  • The Laboratory Cytogenetic Technologist Trainee trains in learning and performing human chromosome analysis on all tissue types under direct supervision of a technologist using established procedures in the Cytogenetics Section of the Dept. of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine with the goal of obtaining Cytogenetics Licensure.
  • Performs chromosome and FISH analyses of patient specimens under the direction of Cytogenetic Technologists
  • Performs bench work (processing, culture, slide preparation, etc.) for chromosome and FISH analysis under the supervision of Cytogenetic Technologists
  • Performs, documents, and monitors quality control measures in assigned section(s)
  • Operates and maintains laboratory instruments
  • Assists with providing correct information on specimen requirements to clinical staff, and directs results and decision-making inquiries to the Supervisor or Director



Minimum Qualifications:

Education:




  • Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory, chemical or biological science
  • Trainee License from the State of Florida required prior to start date



Experience:




  • Ability to understand and communicate effectively when interacting with patients with age-specific and unique needs
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity necessary to prepare specimens and perform clinical and microscopic analyses

Salary Range: Minimum 17.44 per hour - Maximum 27.90 per hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
