Job Description:

Energy Transfer owns and operates one of the largest and most diversified portfolios of energy assets in the United States, with a strategic footprint in all of the major domestic production basins. ET is a publicly traded limited partnership with core operations that include complementary natural gas midstream, intrastate and interstate transportation and storage assets; crude oil, natural gas liquids (NGL) and refined product transportation and terminal related assets; NGL fractionation; and various acquisition and marketing assets.

The Specialist - Electrical will provide technical support to the Division Liquid Pipeline Operations. Primary focus includes working closely with Operation to oversee and execute major interval electrical PMs, providing day to day technical support and troubleshooting for electrical equipment, and leading Root Cause Failure Analyses (RCFA) for electrical equipment failures.

Primary Responsibilities



  • Primary regional electrical SME for Field Operations supporting pipeline and terminals.
  • Support local I&E techs and Operations in day-to-day activities and troubleshooting,
  • Trained local I&E Tech as needed.


* Responsible for oversight and execution of major interval electrical PMs in accordance with company procedure.

u Arc Flash Studies - Initial and 5-yr re-validations.

u LV Maintenance (<600V) - 5-yr major interval electrical PMs.

u MV Maintenance (>600V) - 3-yr major interval electrical PMs.

* Provides day-to-day technical support and troubleshooting for electrical equipment.

u Troubleshooting station electrical systems

u Perform testing on motors, transformers, breakers, switchgear, metering, cables, UPS's, VFD's, Relays, and other station equipment.

u Follow offsite repairs of critical electrical equipment and witness FAT as required

* Leads Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for electrical equipment failures.

u Utilizing TapRoot process.

u Provides recommendations for mitigation or elimination of future occurrences.

* Oversees electrical equipment Critical Spare program

u Provides recommendations based on evaluations, failures, and system criticality.

u Reviews Operations requests and facilitates Critical Spare request process with Inventory.

* Support/Execute MOC, PSSR & LOTO process in accordance with Company's procedures.

* Good analytical skills are required to diagnose problems and needs of the customers to make appropriate changes and recommendations. Must be able to develop multiple alternatives to an individual problem or situation.

* Support equipment selection during routine maintenance or as part of Operation/capital projects by referencing company standards & site documentation such as single line drawing, hazardous area classification, load list, conduit & cable schedule, etc.

* Responsible to review or update project specifications and designs related to electrical equipment, facility power, power studies, utility feeds/distribution/connections/contracts/contract strategies, as related to projects or company goals.

* Responsible to support Major Electrical Replacement Project like VFD, Switchgear, Relays, Motor etc. across pipeline station and terminals.

* Responsible for identifying Generator needs during commercial power unavailability such as during Hurricane season or to meet project deadlines.

* Knowledge in design of power system facilities and equipment and construction, operation, and maintenance of electric power generating, receiving, and distribution stations, transmission lines, and distribution systems and equipment.

* Oversees engineering performed by in-house designers and outside contracting firms.

* Assisting in preparing technical standards, specifications and procedures for individual and company-wide projects.

Minimum Requirements

* B.S. degree in electrical / electronic / instrument control technology or 2-year associates/Technical degree with equivalent with 6+ years of pipeline operations, maintenance, engineering and design experience related to area of expertise.

* Minimum of 6 years related experience in pipeline and/or refinery environment.

* Knowledge of industry safety practices and relevant codes.

* Ability to develop and present multiple alternatives to an individual problem or situation.

* Strong verbal and written communications skills; good organizational skills.

* Experience developing piping, instrument and electrical diagrams.

* Must have well developed PC skills, (Microsoft Office: WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT, ACCESS, MS Project, etc.)

* Experience/knowledge on switch gear, Motors, Transformer, Protective relays and VFD, preferred manufacturer Allan Bradley, GE, EATON, Siemens, ABB, Schneide.

* Experience/Knowledge of Gateway devices; Prosoft, Redline and Digi etc. and communication protocol like Modbus, TCP IP.

* Must be a strong team leader as well as active member.

* Travel with in regional geographic area to and from individual pipeline sites is required.

Preferred Experience:

* This position commands a wide range of knowledge and experience in dealing with a variety of electrical, instrumentation and control equipment.

* The position requires the ability to balance multiple pipelines job/projects simultaneously, the ability to prioritize tasks, and shift previously established priorities in response to changing business needs.

* Must be able to set up and work within operation teams; follow established department workflow processes; provide clear direction to Local ops, contractors, construction managers, field technicians and support personnel.

* Emphasis is on safety, operations, budget and schedule.

* Knowledge of AB Control Logix programming, HMI interface software and DCS is a plus.

* ETAP or SKM or similar electrical software knowledge is a plus.

* Experience dealing with Utility companies for power requirements/issues to improve incoming feed to pipeline station.

* Demonstrated knowledge of working with Industry Standards and Specifications in the Electric and Power disciplines (NEC, NFPA 70E, Low Voltage <5Kv, Medium Voltage 5kv-15kv).

Working Conditions:

* The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

* Usually, normal office working conditions. May require to work evenings, weekends or Holidays.

* Occasional overnight travel may be required for troubleshooting site issues, projects startup and Commissioning.

* Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
