Job Summary

We are currently looking for an Engineering Technician - 2nd shift to join our team onsite in our Holland, MI wood plant. Posting lists minimum requirements, however, the level hired in at could be higher and will be determined by your experience.The schedule is Monday - Thursday, from 3:00 pm to 1:00 am. If needed, overtime would be on Friday.

As an Engineering Technician, you will:

Assist with project design, development, installation, problem solving, and documentation of new and/or existing processes, equipment, and tooling. Meets established quality and performance standards by applying engineering principles and low cost manufacturing processes. Areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, knowledge of manufacturing systems and processes, tool design industrial engineering studies, automation studies, plant layout, safety, and process audits. Programs Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) equipment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Analyzes blueprints, sketches, or verbal requests to determine processes, tooling, sequence of operations, and materials required to complete tasks and establish acceptable completion date with requestor.
  • Designs and builds special tooling and fixtures required to fabricate prototype parts and performs machine set-up for fabricating operations.
  • Advises engineers and designers of design discrepancies and manufacturing process limitations to make recommendations for improvement of part function or manufacturability.
  • Monitors and controls workflow through area of responsibility, ensuring all work is receiving appropriate attention and all requested completion dates are being met.
  • Advises supervisor in determining scope of outside support required and contacts appropriate suppliers to place work, establish cost, provide instructions, and monitor progress to control workflow and provide best cost and quality, without sacrificing lead times.
  • Responsible for safety of self and others when operating equipment, as well as training of personnel who are unfamiliar with equipment use.
  • Responsible for preventative maintenance of equipment and general housekeeping of work area, requiring frequent bending and occasional ladder climbing.
  • Frequently lifts/moves product and material weighing up to 60 pounds to and from machinery. Occasionally moves loads of parts weighing several hundred pounds, throughout department, utilizing hand carts and manual material handling equipment.
  • Performs other duties within scope as assigned.
  • Must be able to perform all essential job function with/without accommodation.
  • Ability to effectively use office automation, communication, software, and tools used in Haworth office environment.

Required Qualifications

Education:



  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Education Equivalency: GED or other equivalent.


Work Experience:



  • Minimum of 1 year experiencewith various cutting tools, their proper use, maintenance needs, and safety procedures and capabilityof selecting the appropriate tool.

Additional Requirements:



  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of projects in Model Shop.
  • Applicant must possess an unrestricted right to work in the US to be eligible for the position.
  • Must be able to work onsite in Holland, MI without relocation services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification or vocational training
  • Experience operating Komo CNC machines, including proficiency with Komo machine controls, tooling, and CAM software
  • Experience using wrenches and other hand tools for mechanical repairs, assembly work, and general maintenance tasks. Comfortable with basic tasks like fastener installation and removal.
  • Machine, upholstery, or woodworking experience.
  • Experience creating prototypes and samples.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Able to effectively use the suite for tasks like document creation, data entry, and email communication.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD for 2D drafting and 3D modeling. Experience should include proficiency with standard drawing and modeling tools, dimensioning, section views, assembly modeling, and technical drawing standards.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English).

Ideally, you will have also demonstarted the following

  • Ability to read blueprints to American National Standards Institute (ANSI) drafting practices, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with proven ability to build rapport, collaborate effectively with, and actively listen to diverse groups of internal and external stakeholders.
