Associate Scientist II, Oncology

The Oncology Research group at Alnylam is seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist II to join our growing interdisciplinary team aimed at developing RNAi therapeutics against cancer. The successful candidate will be technically skilled in synthetic organic chemistry laboratory techniques and contribute to the synthesis, purification, and characterization of oligonucleotide conjugates to support various oncology drug discovery projects. The candidate must be motivated, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and be able to work on a highly collaborative team.

This position is onsite and will be primarily located in Cambridge, MA.

Key Responsibilities

* Perform synthesis, purification and characterization of siRNA conjugates including small molecule, peptide, or protein conjugates and contributes to the development of new synthetic approaches toward these modalities.
* Improve upon or develop new methods to streamline workflows for generating different siRNA delivery modalities.
* Effectively troubleshoot synthetic and process challenges and independently come up with solutions.
* Manage sample inventory and keeps detailed records in an electronic notebook.
* Analyze and interpret data and communicates results to the team.
* Collaborate with team members throughout the organization to progress drug discovery efforts, contributing to a dynamic, exciting culture that embraces teamwork, innovation, and transparency.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Biology, or a related field.
* 0-4 years of work experience, preferably in an industrial setting.
* Proficiency in synthetic organic chemistry lab techniques and instrumentation such as NMR, HPLC, LC-MS, UV-Vis spectrometry, etc. is required.
* Experience in biorthogonal chemistry and good understanding of the challenges in working with various bioconjugate formats preferred.
* Experience in developing new chromatographic methods (IEX/RP HPLC, SEC, LC-MS) is a plus.
* Passionate about scientific discovery and eager to learn new skills and contribute to the success of the organization.
* Strong organizational, communication, and critical thinking skills.
* Excellent communicator, execution-focused and team-oriented.
* Good record keeping abilities to adequately document protocols and experimental data.
