Job Summary

The Genetics Assistant is part of the Cancer Genetics and Prevention Clinic and supports the clinicians by performing administrative tasks, including scheduling appointments, ensuring pre-visit screening and testing has been completed, care coordination, and clinical record management. The genetics assistant will work collaboratively with the clinical team to provide exceptional patient care.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Contacts all patients referred to introduce self and program and to understand needs of patient (family support, socioeconomic status, etc.) and answer questions/concerns.
  • Coordinates patient information with community physicians and customizes patient schedules.
  • Promotes available services, assists in clarifying choices, and ensures unrestricted access to all services.
  • Schedule appointments for patients who have expressed an interest in or have been referred for genetic testing.
  • Send and review pre-screening assessments.
  • Prepare clinical documentation for pre and post visit planning.
  • Ensure outside test results are entered in the electronic medical record.
  • Analyzes patient diagnosis and relates information to physician and clinical team.
  • Initiates meetings or communication with physician offices or related professional personnel to build or maintain communication to increase awareness and/or address processes for the program. Organizes and helpscreatea customized plan for each patient referred.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

Required:
Education - Associates degree in Health Sciences

Experience - 3+ years of Healthcare Experience

Preferred:

Education - Bachelors degree in related field

Physical Requirements:
Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
