Job Summary

Under the direction of the Medical Staff Supervisor of Student Health & Counseling Services (SHCS), serves as a Nurse Practitioner II in the clinic areas that are identified with staffing needs such as Primary Care and Acute Care. Performs professional patient care assigned as needed, provides clinical care and education for campus programs. Performs all duties allowed by the Nurse Practice Act for Nurse Practitioners to provide patient care. Follows UC Davis policies and procedures as well as all State and Federal professional legal requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

* Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
* California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing License
* California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction
* Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certificate within 3 months of hire
* American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
* National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area
* Successful completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program.
* Experience to complete patient history, perform physical examination, diagnose and treat common medical conditions and coordinate health management of patients.
* Experience to perform office laboratory tests, collections of specimens, initiate culturing of certain specimens and determine abnormalities in lab reports.
* Skills to differentiate between patients' who require immediate vs. deferred consultation and/or referral, provide family planning and counseling, evaluate patient's emotional condition.
* Knowledge of psychology to counsel and support patients and provide emergency treatment in life threatening psychiatric emergencies.
* Demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate and interact with diverse individuals.

Preferred Qualifications

* Two years of experience in Primary Care or Urgent Care setting.
* One year experience in sports medicine.
* One year experience working in eating disorder care.
* Experience working with Practice Management Database and/or Electronic Medical Record system.
* Experience working under high stress, time pressure and clinical emergencies.
* Administrative experience to assist with various clinic related projects.

Department Overview

Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) provides primary care, mental health, acute care, laboratory, pharmacy, health education and counseling services to registered UC Davis students. SHCS serves approximately 300 patients per day during the school year. The mission is to provide campus health and wellness resources that enable students to successfully achieve their academic goals and life-long wellness. SHCS has approximately 200 staff including managers, senior professionals, professional and support staff, student employees, interns and post doc residents. SHCS is accredited by AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care), and IACS (International Association for Counseling Services). SHCS Counseling Services are staffed by an educationally diverse group of licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, Masters level therapists, and pre-and post-doctoral trainees, dedicated to assisting students and enriching the university community by providing individual counseling, group services, educational programs, psychological consultation, workshops, and other types of outreach services. Counseling services are offered at no cost to registered students.

Work Environment
