Position Summary:

The Lead Respiratory Therapist (RT) functions as "Charge Therapist" with responsibility for ensuring adequate number of respiratory care staff to cover patient care areas and needs. This includes assigning respiratory care staff to work areas and/or work assignments, modifying work assignments, assisting with meal coverage, and fielding call offs. The Lead RT is responsible for mentoring the staff in appropriate behavior and decision making as well as leading by example. The Lead RT is a resource to other respiratory care staff, physicians, and health care professionals ensuring orders are concurrent with policies and procedures

The Lead RT provides direct clinical coverage to all areas of the hospital, assists respiratory therapy staff with their assignments, computer skills, special procedures, and patient assessments

The Lead RT has well developed knowledge and skills in the assessment and acute care management of patients and families with respiratory disease.

The incumbent will maintain BLS and ACLS certifications.

The Lead RT will be responsible for monitoring inventory needs and communicating with the Respiratory leadership to order and maintain necessary par levels of equipment. Oversees cleaning, calibration and maintenance of all respiratory therapy equipment and assures quality standards are met.

Employee demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit as indicated by the following:

Demonstrates ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.

Identifies the physical, motor, sensory, cognitive and psychosocial characteristics for age group(s) served.

Demonstrates age appropriate communication skills.

Demonstrates ability to provide the care needed as described in the job description and the department's scope of service for the patient groups under his/her care.

Age group(s) served will be one or more of the following: Infant (Birth to 12 months), Child (13 months to 12 years), Adolescent (13 years to 17 years), Adult (18 years to 69 years) or Geriatric (70 years and older).

Education/Work Experience:

1. Graduate of an approved Respiratory Care Practitioner program.

2. Associates degree required; BS/BA degree is desirable.

3. 5 years RT experience

Licensure/Certification:

1. Current active license from the State of Maryland Physician Board Quality Assurance (MPBQA). Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).

2. Current BLS CERTIFICATION.

3. Definitions of the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) are as follows

* RRT-Registered Respiratory Therapist (Advanced Practitioner) required effective 3/1/2020

4. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within six months of hire.

Salary Range: Minimum 35.93 per hour - Maximum 59.32 per hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
