Description

As an Estimator, Drywall, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the bid process, from organizing bid documents to preparing comprehensive proposals. Your expertise in construction methods and building standards will be critical in accurately estimating project costs and ensuring competitiveness in the bidding process.

Compensation will range from $92 to $125k per year. Anning-Johnson Co has been employee owned for 75 years, and as such has a very generous benefits package. Which includes bonus, stock, profit sharing, and complete array of personal benefits.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Bid Process Management:



  • Organize bid documents according to company standards, ensuring clarity and completeness.
  • Review plans and specifications to identify ambiguities and resolve them prior to proposal submission.
  • Provide detailed quantity surveys in formats facilitating cost analysis for labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Tailor quantity surveys to meet specific customer needs for cost data by area or building component.
  • Manage the bid process efficiently, facilitating timely reviews and confirmations of estimating assumptions.
  • Prepare written proposals that align with company standards and customer expectations.
  • Deliver effective verbal presentations of proposals, demonstrating expertise and confidence.


Estimating Assumptions and Analysis:



  • Stay updated on labor production rates, construction techniques, and alternative materials/methods.
  • Consider scheduling, sequencing, and safety factors impacting costs and incorporate them into estimates.
  • Collaborate with project management to review manpower requirements, critical production rates, and subcontractor quotations.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes and explore value engineering opportunities to enhance competitiveness.


Post Award Support:



  • Verify contract details post-award and facilitate turnover meetings to project management.
  • Assist in developing job cost budgets and managing material and subcontractor procurement.
  • Support project management with change orders and participate in project progress monitoring.
  • Contribute to post-mortem reviews to identify lessons learned and areas for improvement.


QUALIFICATIONS

Experience & Education



  • Completion of a 4-year construction technology program, or equivalent technical training and/or experience.
  • Previous experience in construction estimating or related field preferred.
  • Technical Competence: Advanced knowledge of construction methods, building code standards, and quantity survey techniques.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze bid documents, identify project requirements, and accurately estimate costs.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Proven ability to resolve ambiguities in plans and specifications and address challenges in the bid process.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with customers, subcontractors, and consultants.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational abilities to manage multiple bids simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Decision-Making Skills: Sound judgment and decision-making abilities to make informed choices throughout the bid process.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in relevant software applications for quantity surveying, cost estimation, and bid preparation.
