The Columbia School of International and Public Affairs and the Department of Political Science invite applications for a distinguished scholar at any academic rank, from tenure-track assistant professor to tenured full professor, to hold the Gerald L. Curtis Professorship of Modern Japanese Politics and Foreign Policy to begin July 1, 2025.

The successful candidate will be appointed jointly in the School of International and Public Affairs and the Department of Political Science or may be appointed exclusively in one of these two units.

A Ph.D. and the ability to undertake research in the Japanese language are required. Candidates will be expected to teach and sustain an active research and publication agenda involving public policy issues in contemporary Japanese politics and/or foreign relations. The candidate will be expected to play a leadership role in the Weatherhead East Asian Institute in organizing research and programmatic activities concerning Japanese politics and foreign policy.
