DESCRIPTION

THE DEPARTMENT OF PEDIATRICS, Division of Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Medicine and Medical Behavioral Unit is seeking clinicians to provide patient care in the outpatient AYA clinic and/or the inpatient Medical Behavioral (Eating Disorder) Unit at Rady Children's Hospital San Diego.

UCSD Division of Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Medicine and Medical Behavioral Unit provides consultative, evidenced-based, trauma-informed, culturally aware, and confidential care for youth aged 10-26 years in San Diego County. Outpatient clinic services include eating and nutritional disorder management, mental health assessment with medication management, comprehensive contraceptive services including placement of long-acting reversible contraceptives, medical management of menstrual and gynecologic disorders, and STI screening and treatment. The division is also responsible for outpatient services for the Center for Gender-Affirming Care.

The inpatient Medical Behavioral Unit (MBU) is primarily focused on medical stabilization of youth and young adults with eating disorders and nutrition-related conditions, including severe malnutrition. We provide high-level care with a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, psychiatrists, dietitians, and behaviorally trained nurses. The MBU is a major national referral center and works closely with the UC San Diego Eating Disorder Center. Our team of physicians work closely with psychologists, who are on the unit 10 hrs/day, 7 days/week in order to care for youth with chronic and complex nutrition-related conditions.

Candidates must have an MD or equivalent and be board certified/eligible by the American Board of Pediatrics or Internal Medicine, and have or be eligible for a California medical license as determined by the California Medical Board. The Department has a strong commitment to clinical care and teaching. Assignments will also include supervising and educating residents and fellows in training, participation in division meetings, program planning, and development of provider and patient education information. Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call, and locations based on the 24-hour business needs.

Preferred qualifications for this position include physicians with training in Pediatrics, Med-Peds, Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine, or Hospital Medicine, and a proven ability to work collaboratively across disciplines. The preferred candidates will be physicians with strong clinical skills and interest in medical student/resident education and teaching. Fluency in Spanish and/or other languages is highly desired but not required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • M.D. or D.O. degree

  • Current California Medical License, or ability and commitment to obtain CA license prior to start date

  • Board Certified in Pediatrics or Internal Medicine

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two (2+) or more years' experience in Hospital Medicine or Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine

  • Fluency in Spanish and/or other languages

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check, pre-employment physical, drug screen, immunization screening and TB test.

  • Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and locations based on the 24-hour business needs.
