Job Summary

Contributes to basic and applied research activities and may play a lead role. Performs tasks on their own initiative. May serve as Principal Investigator or co-Principal Investigator or work under the direction of a Principal Investigator or program director and with minimal supervision. In addition to a firm background in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering Management, or related field, demonstrate the ability to assume leadership of small groups and work without additional supervision once objectives are defined and methods of approach are set. May train and/or mentor students on the fundamentals in Generative AI, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, and Cybersecurity.

  • Performs cybersecurity and machine learning research focused on embedded systems, RTOS - real-time operating system, Linux kernel and system programming based on project scope.
  • Explore, modify and investigate new procedures, techniques, or application of technology integrating new findings in field of study and area of research.
  • Contribute to the development of externally funded research projects in their area of expertise. Supports securing of $750,000 of external funding annually.
  • Publishes 1- peer reviewed journal and 3- publication (proceedings) and/or presents research findings annually at the national and international levels to enhance the scientific stature of the Applied Research Center (ARC).
  • Provides technical input in the area of Generative AI, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, and Cybersecurity to support ARC staff and initiatives in the areas of technology evaluation and testing to support D&D, Soil & Groundwater, Nuclear, and other research
  • areas.
  • Serves as a major resource for identifying new approaches and directions in research and development of innovative processes or technologies for integration into FIU-ARC projects and finding creative solutions to issues.
  • Performs research in Generative AI, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, and Cybersecurity, Machine Learning / Deep Learning field supporting different application
  • areas.
  • Performs project analysis, testing, and quality assurance to support various research projects.
  • Assists functional managers in other ARC programs on cross-program projects. Assists in the development of scopes of work including budgets and schedules.
  • Writes and/or contributes to writing and/or executing Project Management Plans (PMP) analysis reports, monthly progress reports, annual final reports, test plans, and other project-relevant documents to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Maintains confidentially on any proprietary information or other intellectual property that is revealed while carrying out job responsibilities on the part of ARC business.
  • Train and/or mentor students on the fundamentals in Generative AI, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, and Cybersecurity
  • Monitors and stays abreast on federal, state, local government, and commercial technical programs. Ensures compliance with all applicable and relevant regulatory guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications

Doctoral degree and one (1) year of relevant experience. Must have a PhD or proof of degree by hire date.

Desired Qualifications

  • Ph.D. Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering Management, or related fields.
  • Experience using a systematic approach to research analysis for solutions.
  • Working knowledge in applied research in Generative AI, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, and Cybersecurity field.
  • Experience in the field of embedded systems, soil and groundwater and nuclear decommissioning.
  • Experience training and/or mentoring students on the fundamentals in Generative AI, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, and Cybersecurity.
